Judgement Day's hosts Vic &Tommy are widely considered as the video game equivalent of Siskel & Ebert. Their show has a "versus" part which often compares two games from the same genre. The next installment will show Winning Eleven 8 vs. Fifa 2005. Here's more info:

Both hosts gave FIFA Soccer 2005 an 8.5 (out of 10).
Tommy gave Winning Eleven 8 an 8.5 while Vic gave it an 8.
They both said that if WE8 had online play, that both games would've scored exactly the same for slightly different reasons. I suppose that they didn't review the PC version of WE8, which does have online play. ;)

Did they quantify why FIFA got such a high score (aside from online play)?

They actually rated FIFA's gameplay on par with WE8, which I didn't expect. Everyone has been hailing WE8's gameplay as light years ahead of FIFA, but they said that gameplay was comparable, and even praised FIFA's gameplay on several occasions.
