Probably one of the games of the season for me. Along with Arsenal v Man U and Chelsea v Barcelona. But this game was absolutely RUINED by pathetic commentary. Who the heck is this guy? He sounds like he should be working at the local furniture store.

They had problems with the British feed, so it sounded like the guy in the studio had to fill in. Frankly, I wouldn't have cared if they had piped in Carol Channing singing Hello Dolly! over that game.

Actually I have to EMPHATICALLY disagree.
The GOLTV annoucer, covering for the loss of the UK based commentary, did a great job. At first I thought I was going to be stuck listening to GOLTV's version of Max Bretos, but this guy actually SHUT UP and didn't feel the ned to embellish every action with his own commentary. He didn't pretend like he was there, nor did he feel the need to *act* like an announcer to maximize his moment in the spotlight.
Was he quiet? Was he bland compared to a normal match announcer?
Of course he was. After all he was watching the same feed that we were, and doing his best to add just enough for those who aren't experts on the game like all of us BS regulars.

Wish they could have sorted out the English announcer. The guy in the studio is ok, but the main thing is when you use a guy in a studio you dont get the crowd sound.

Plus the English guy knows a lot more of the little stuff that makes up Spanish futbol, like Presidents never cheering after a goal, etc.

I was very disappointed with the audio problem. I understand the WorldSport HD telecast didn't have this problem.

Now that VOOM is dying, is WorldSport HD La Liga and UEFA Cup coverage in some way going to merge with GolTV to create GolTV HD?

Does anyone know if GolTv will show a replay of this game. There wasnt anything on their website, but I know they replayed the last time they played.

You guys really need to ease up on the bitching. That "guy" who was calling the Barça - Madrid game was Phil Schoen. The majority of you guys have never had a problem with him before, yet because there were some audio problems, now you decide to voice your displeasure. Considering the circumstances, I think Phil did a good job. He's one of the best announcers GolTV has, English or Spanish!

As for repeating the game, they'll be repeating it on Tuesday at 9pm (EST), as well as Thursday at 5pm (EST)

"Whether you like it, or you don't like it, it's the best thing going today, so you better learn to love it...woooooooh!!!!!"

God, you must be on the GOL TV payroll or something. Or maybe you've never heard good commentary in your life.

I've actually heard more commentary in several languages than you'll ever hear in your lifetime. It's people like you that ruin the games. Instead of enjoying the game for what it is, and be happy that you can watch these games cause we all know that ESPN will NEVER show them in the States, you sit and nitpick over ever little minor detail.
Opinions are like @#$holes, everyone has one.

I think Phil did a decent job filling in without much prep. You see, commentators that know they are going to be doing a big game like RLM-Barca do what's called preperation beforehand. They learn a few little tidbits about some of the players, they read up on the game. Phil didn't get that opportunity. Not to mention that Phis is better utilized in a two man booth with Ray Hudson's craziness to play off of. For having no time to get ready, Phil did a great job. He's one of the better American announcers for soccer.

Guess I'll have to start complaining to my friendly local cable company that I don't have GOLTV...what's their website?

I admit to being disappointed that GolTV had audio problems because I think Paul Green Turner's announcing is excellent. He is outstanding on La Liga. That said, however, I can't complain at all about the job Phil did on the fly under difficult circumstances. Given the buildup to this match, I can only imagine the chaos going on with the production team while they were trying to get things straightened out.

That's what happens with live TV. And given that 2 years ago we wouldn't have even had the ability to see this match, I'll happily take it.

I can't complain too much about Schoen and Hudson together, aside from the fact that whenever there's a goal, Schoen yells--which normally wouldn't be a problem if the volume on the mic was turned down, because the speakers on my TV get pushed to the breaking limit.

But great job improvising, and on his own as well.

Still, of all of the games to have technical problems with...

I really missed Paul Green Turner, but Phil Schoen was ok and didn't talk too much. Paul is the absolute best on La Liga. Here's to next week with Paul. :)

Actually, his name is Paul Breen Turner. And you're right, he's a great announcer.

I like Paul Breen Turner. What's the name of the guy who sounds really nasally? Not a big fan of him on the broadcasts, except when he says Xavi: "shaaaaaaaaveeeeeeee"

Yeah that is really annoying, I have to have the volume really low otherwise my speakers will get blown with that yelling
