No Brian Namoff. Don't expect Adu or Quaranta to play major minutes, if any at all due to Wednesday's match in Mexico City..

See ya there tomorrow.

Supposedly you can only play 90 minutes total between the MLS game and the reserve game.

I guess Gomez, Esky, and Guppy could play. I just don't see Nowak (or whoever coaches the reserve game) throwing Steve out there for three minutes.

None of the players above were listed on the board in the locker room, they will not be playing..

I'm surprised we played the "A"-team tonight, given that we have a game at Olympic stadium in La Ciudad on Wednesday. Since we didn't rest the starters, I guess that means we don't show the reserves any mercey either.

I guess I would throw out:

------------Perkins------------

--Merritt---Arena---Prideaux--

-----------Simms--------------

-Van Sicklen--Kuykendall--Kuffour

---------Quintanilla----------

-----Walker------Thompson----

I would expect about a half for Freddy, and 30 or so minutes for Quaranta.

Simms has his work cut out for him.

Is it clear the match is at the auxilary field? Someone claimed that he saw it listed for RFK.

The reserve games in LA are all listed at HDC even though they're not actually going to be played in the main stadium. So even though it's listed at RFK, that may actually mean the RFK auxiliary fields.

Final Score

DC United 4
Chicago Fire 1

50 - Merritt (Adu)
55 - Kuffour
65 - Simms (Van Sicklen)
68 - Jaqua
90 - Quintanilla (Adu)

A very spirited match from both sides. Very quick pace throughout. Nick Van Sicklen and Nana Kuffour stood out for United as well as second half substitute Freddy Adu. Kuffour scored the goal of the day when he blasted thru midfield and challanged Honduran international defender Samuel Caballero and muscled him off the ball and then burst thru and beat Chicago keeper David Mahoney to the loose ball and slipped it into the empty net. I can not underscore how impressive this goal was as the diminutive (in height only) Kuffour launched himself forward with strength and speed to knock off one of the best defenders in this region to a loose ball and then to regain his balance and beat both Cabellero and Mahoney to the ball and score. Very impressive.

The first goal was a well worked give and go with Merritt starting the play from the halfway line and Adu turning and threading a perfect thru ball between Cabellero and Segares with Merritt latching onto the ball at the corner of the box and shooting towards goal as he and Mahoney collided..

The third goal was a basic buildup along the right flank with Slick dumping the ball off to Simms who was about 25 yards out right in front. Simms took one touch and launched a daisy cutter that went through about 4 players and hit side netting on the far post for a 3-0 lead.

Chicago pulled a goal back when Cheyo (Q2) lost the ball at midfield and Kenny Arena whiffed on his tackle of Nate Jaqua and he was off to the races. Second half goal sub Andrew Terris came out to challenge but Jaqua slotted the ball calmly past Terris..

Finally, on the death of the match, Adu broke free down the right sideline and centered to a wide open Cheyo who roofed the ball into the net after a settling touch in front of goal..

All in all a well played match by the reserves..

A complete writeup will be available on www.matchnight.com in about two hours from now..

For me 10am Sunday is early anywhere. I mean if it was 2pm, that might be more reasonable - as fans go anyway. How many supporters came for the match?

I got there a few minutes late, but assuming there were no early goals the result was:

DCU 4, Fire 1

DCU lineup:

Perkins

Merritt Arena Kuykendall

Van Sicklen Simms Quintanilla Kuffour Quaranta

Walker Thompson

Freddy replaced Q1 in the second half, and Kuffour moved outside. Terris took over in goal. Later, Prideaux came in for Walker but played left back; Q2 moved to forward and Kuykendall took his place in the midfield.

DCU Goals: Merritt, Kuffour, Simms,Q2
Fire Goal: Jacqua

Just about everybody on DCU looked good, but maybe that's just my bias. However, Q1 didn't make much of an impact and things picked up when Freddy came in and paired with Q1 in the middle. Merritt scored the first goal by passing it out of the backfield and streaking down the right flank to put the return pass in the net. Kuffour's goal was pretty much an individual effort. Simms did what I would like to see more of from Moreno and Adu: he got the ball just outside the box, saw quickly that a shot was as good an option as any he had, and drilled it into the lower left corner. Jaime and to some extent Freddy would have looked to make one last pass. Q2's goal came off a gorgeous centering pass from Freddy.

Jacqua scored off a giveaway by Q2. Couldn't fault the keeper.

Merritt looked very composed, as did Kuykendall. Arena did fine under the gaze of his dad. Q2 impressed me (as he always has); Van Sicklen seems to have the same skills package as Gros; Simms looked like he belonged out there; the forwards (Walker and Thompson) didn't get too many balls but Thompson had a nice run and a screamer of a shot that went just wide.
Kuffour is clever with his feet and a very tough customer. Of course, he picked up a card as he is wont to do.

The field was brown. I hope the sod comes back. It looks like a rec. department field. I think it is quite a bit smaller than RFK, which isn't all bad because it made for a lot of close contact, high-pressure ball control situations. I don't think that anyone who played would have been so exhausted that they wouldn't potentially be available for Wednesday.

Brandon says he's better, but not 100% yet. I spoke to Stokes, who was one of the few first-teamers I saw out there. He's a very friendly and pleasant young man. He played at UNC with Merritt and club ball with Kuykendall, so he was providing moral support.

Reserve games are fun! You sit about 10 feet from the sideline.

DCU Line-Up:
1st Half
G - Perkins
CB - Arena
RB - Merritt
LB - Kuykendall
DM - Simms
RM - Thompson
LM - Van Sicklen
AM - Kuffour
AM - Quintanilla
RF - Walker
LF - Quaranta

2nd Half (SUBS ARE CAPITALIZED, Position Changes are in Italics))
G - TERRIS (46TH MINUTE)
CB - Arena
RB - Merritt
LB - Kuykendall
DM - Simms
RM - Van Sicklen
LM - Thompson
AM - ADU (46 MINUTE)
AM - Quintanilla
RF - Walker (PRIDEAUX 80TH MINUTE), Kuykendall moves to DM)
LF - Kuffour

Good game - great seats - super ticket price (free). Even if DCU wants to lay out no $ for these games (i.e. security, concessions) - I would still think that it would be a good idea to mention them a bit more in their press releases - it is a good chance to be right next to the playing field like a youth soccer game. The 2nd half was the best when Adu, Simms, and Kuffour shined. There were 80 or so fans in the stands including Bruce Arena. Thompson played outside midfielder (both halves - he played the flank closest to DC's bench - I suppose so that Soehn could yell instructions to him). I would have liked to see him play forward to challenge for the head balls that Chicago was winning most of the time. Adu was high quality in his 45 minutes - Quaranta did not do much.

DCU (especially Jamil Walker) must have set a record for offsides calls - some of which were very questionable (especially Walker's 1st half scored off a cross from a short corner which the linesman called offsides).
