Oh well. A win would have been nice, but at least it's not a loss.

Just got in. I saw Adu came on early this game, but the MLS PBP didn't really credit him with more than 1 shot and 1 foul. Did he make an impact?

it sounded like alot of the play was going through him, and the radio commentator said that he "outmuscled a few defenders" the commentator also mentioned his skill a few times

Thats good enough for me. Not taking a loss was important. The Wed match is priority. I'm stuck at work making your electricity so, could not see the game. But, the result is enough for me.
On to Mexico....

Exactly.
Not going to win every game. A result is a result.
Priorities, people. Priorities.

Defending Champs draw 1-1 in home opener? Not having attended the game, I'm dissappointed with that result, despite our hectic schedule.

Just got back from the game. They looked asleep in the early part of the game. The crowd tailgated too much and showed up in the 20th minute. When they finally got there it was a good crowd though. Early subs for Gomito and Esky. Must be saving them a little for Wednesday. The goal Petke got was scrappy. That monster Chicago keeper made a great save on an Esky header in the first half. They subbed out fatboy at halftime for some reason but we couldn't get past the second team keeper. Not much energy in the game. They're goal looked offside. Boswell and Stokes played well. On to Mexico.

"Just got in. I saw Adu came on early this game, but the MLS PBP didn't really credit him with more than 1 shot and 1 foul. Did he make an impact?"
I watched the match on HDnet...DC was looking pretty stale coming out of halftime. As soon as Freddy came on for Gomez, it was constant pressure on the offensive end for United. He came on around the 62nd minute and IMO made an instant impact on the game...he did wonderfully to keep possession several times when several defenders were surrounding him, made several threatning runs at the Chicago defenders deep in their territory, had several really good creative passes (one really good pass that lead Walker into a wide open space on the right, but no one for DC was in the box for the Jamil cross). He played with great energy and very solid on defense. I can't recall Freddy ever being dispossesed the whole time he was on or passing the ball to the opposition. He also had several on ball moves (turns or touches away from defenders) that just made me shake my head in amazement. He had one shot on goal that looked very promising off his right foot, but in an attempt to get out of the way Moreno hit the deck and deflected the low driven shot out for a goal kick (great defense by Moreno ;) ).
Who said Freddy couldn't play D? haha I know, I know...but he dispossesed several Chicago players, including one at center mid which then led to Freddy running at the backline of Chicago (he ended up passing it off, can't quite remember how it finished...obviously it didn't end in a goal).
There were only 2 "bad" plays on Freddy's part from his 30 mins on the pitch and that was one pass across the pitch to Guppy that was behind him (all Guppy had to do was track back a bit to get which he did, no harm) and another pass in which he led Guppy too much down the wing trying to play him into space so he could make the cross (Guppy was wrongfully called for offsides anyway). Adu should have just played the pass straight to his feet where Guppy was already standing and let him play the cross from there.
Look, I'm almost afraid to give him this much praise, but I'm just describing to you guys that didn't get to see the match what I saw out of Freddy. As soon as he came in...he quickly established himself as a force and the most dangerous player on the pitch with the ball at his feet. There was basically no adjustment time needed for him to get into this match.
This kid is special, I just hope he can stay consistant with these kinds of performances as he starts to get more time on the pitch.
As for the result, 1-1 for the home opener ...pretty underwhelming. Esky has got to get on the scoresheet soon, he missed two really good chances. Here's to hoping for a better perfomance in Mexico...

Just in from the game.
A beautiful night in DC. Very large, loud crowd - even on the quiet side.
United started off slowly but really picked it up, and I thought they played very well. We dominated the game and should have won. I'm very surprised the stats are as even as they are.
Guppy and Stokes bashers would have had to rethink themselves this evening, and I'm very sorry more people didn't get to see them play. Both played very well, as did Moreno, Olsen, and Petke. Surprisingly enough, I thought Gros seemed tired. And there were some unusually bad plays from Gomez.
Esky is definitely in a slump - he didn't even seem like a threat tonight.
Adu came on at about the 60 minute mark (for Gomez) and played very well. He was dominating, but for whatever reason he just won't shoot the ball right now. Several others had that same problem - Olsen stole the ball and went in one v. one with the keeper, but instead of shooting passed the ball.
Adu showed some real flashes of greatness - great possession, passing, hustle, everything.
Quaranta came on for Esky, and finally Walker for Guppy but with only about 5 minutes or so left.
Moreno was excellent, IMO. He had a beautiful shot that hit off the crossbar, and was just working all evening. I hope he has something left for Wednesday.
Stokes still has a problem with some of his passes, but he did very well and I have to say if the improvement continues Namoff may have something to worry about (yes, I just said that).
The crowd felt Chicago was offside on their goal, but I missed it (usher in the way) so I can't comment. A couple of minutes right before the goal they had blown another one-on-one with Rimando, who managed to deflect the shot to the right, but two in a row and he wasn't that good (or lucky).
A tie may not be the result we wanted, but one could take a lot of positives from this game. I think we looked very good - much better than Chicago - and hopefully this goal-scoring slump will end soon (paging the 2004 Eskandarian).

Just got back for the game, nice crowd, and a pretty decent match. Guppy actually played fairly well this game, was more involved in the attack but I still don't think he is the answer at our LM spot. Esky was poor, its been 3 games now that he just seems lost, it might be time to try Adu or Q1 up there and maybe let Esky get things together in his head watching a couple games. Even with our offense not running on full cyclinders its obvious to anyone that our defense is our biggest problem. Stokes was TERRIBLE, this kid just doesn't have what it takes, at least not right now. Boswell is a nice prospect but shouldn't be put in the position hes in right now having to control and organize our backline. I hope after watching this match Payne and Piotr start making some phone calls and watching some tape to find a CB who can lead this team, as much as I hate to say it we can't repeat without a big signing at CB who has experience and skill.

I'm not at all pleased with the defending champions in their home opener getting a tie. This was an Eastern Division match to boot. All the more reason to win it.
As to Stokes -- I thought he was a disaster against Pumas, but after reading all the pro-Stokes posts after that game, I thought I had missed something. So I watched him carefully tonight -- he just isn't ready for this League, in my opinion, and probably never will be. He rarely beats a forward one on one; he seems to wander around lost; his passes are a disaster; he had a bad screw up right in front of the goal in the second half, but fortunately Nick got the ball. I just don't see what others see in him.
We gave up two clear break-aways in the first 5 minutes of the 2d half. Nick came out and saved the first one, but couldn't stop the second. Both happened so fast I didn't see where the break-down was but all of sudden they were behind us.
I think Esky needs a rest. I'd like to see more of Santinio up front.
