Whenever I hear alot of latino commentators talking about Chivas USA, I frequently hear them call Chivas USA the "Chivas Gringas". I know some mexicans are fiercly nationalist and refuse to accept any outsiders as their own, but can they please stop with this "chivas Gringas" crap? Mexican-Americans finally have our own team and instead of getting support from our raza, what do we get? - "CHIVAS GRINGAS". Besides, the term itself is inaccurate. The majority of the team is people of latino descent.

It's ok, though. The day we beat a mexican team for our first concacaf champion's cup, they'll forget really quick how they insulted us and finally we'll get some respect.

Chivas USA in theory would be representing the MLS and AMerican soccer in the CCC if they were to make it that far right?

whatever, the team isn't for everybody. We will have enough support as it is. Though I didn't see today's game, on the radio I can hear the Chivas support loud and clear. Some Mexicans will like the idea of a Chivas USA team and others will not, it's not the end of the world.

And yes, NYRMetro, Chivas USA, if they were to play in CCC, would be representing USA/MLS.

Apologies, but down here the word "gringo" "gringa" or "gringas" has lost its negative meaning. Sorry, because from what I understand for this thread, that word is somehow despective in there, but in here, say "gringo" is like say "mexican", "costarican", "canadian" or "brazillian"... it means nothing but that they're from USA.

==============

I said apologies because I've referred to the team like that and I support the team, I watched the match, and I'll try to watch everymatch they broadcast in here.
I want the team to have USA players, I'd love to watch a Mexico vs USA match in the next few years where half of both teams are chivas players...
I respect a lot USA mentality in football, I believe MLS will raise its playing level in the next years...
...anyway... I still don't find anything offensive in the "chivas gringas"... sorry.

me neither,

in fact mexican americans who visit mexico are sometimes called gringos too, at least to my knowledge it is does not have negative connotation and to be deemed racist is hilarious, the word simplay is just saying there "del otro lado" statesiders.

My understanding of the word is it means "European", but the true meaning isn't as simple as I thought...

I've also referred to it as "las chivas gringas" in this forum (even though I'm also a fan) and if it has been misunderstood please accept my apologies. It simply sounded to me more like the "de cariņo" way to refer to the team. "Chivas USA" is kind of "too american " :p No offense intended.

What jagwar says about waiting to see a match between both el Tri and the Nats where both rosters would be full of Chivas players on both sides sounds awesome :D Hope it is the case one day.

"De carinos" is the best way to describe the Chivas Gringas statement. When I go to Guadalajara to visit family my cousins introduce me as their "gringo primo" I speak Spanish but am "gringo" in their eyes..no offense but to laugh as my grandma use to call me her "gordito" :mad: and now she just calls me Jose so that's cool...

Don't worry about it... ;)

Theres nothing wrong with the term "gringo". And Chivas USA ARE Las Chivas gringas... they're certainly not las chivas mexicanas now are they? or would you prefer Las Chivas chicanas? :D

I call them the Goats or Squatters. Is that not politically correct? I mean it in the best possible way...
