In the season ticket packages, we received a paper called "Fan Zone" but it should have been called "Ballet Etiquette Zone" Here are some of the guidelines for games at Rice-Eccles Stadium:

PROHIBITED ITEMS
Alcoholic beverages (the stadium doesn't prohibit bags, but they are subject to search), balloons & beach balls, cans/bottles or other beverage containters, coolers, fireworks/smoke bombs, ice chests, illegal drugs, laser pens/pointers, noise-making devices (i.e. horns, whistles, etc.) poles to display banners or flags, umbrellas, video or movie cameras, weapons, any other items deeemed to be dangerous or inappropriate.

TAILGATING
Tailgating is strictly prohibited in all Rice-Eccles and University of Utah lots. Fans are encouraged to join Carnival Real at Olympic Cauldron Park on the south end of the stadium beginning 90 minutes prior to kick-off for food, fun, and pre-game entertainment.

.. HELP!!!! So much for any atmosphere! No "noise-making devices," I guess I'll have to leave my hands and voice box at home, because we wouldn't want any friggin noise in the stadium!

Whoever made these rules has absolutely killed any fan atmosphere and game-day experience we might have had.

It doesn't make any sense! The FO told us repeatedly that flags were a go, we discussed our drums with them, I was under the impression that they had set apart a section of the parking lot for us to have our tailgates in! And now this??? Either there is some mistake or we got totally lied to!

Its gotta be a mistake. Pastorino said we would have a place to store our stuff. We wouldn't need a place to store stuff if they were going to prohibit it.

I wouldn't worry.

These are general stadium rules, organized supporter groups usually follow different set. Also (much like DCU at RFK) your team probably doesn't have that much say in policies until you move to your SSS.

Banners are on prohibited list at RFK too but only Chicago in MLS puts up as many as we do. Same for flags but I took 2000 sq feet of overhead flags in 2 days ago, so as long as you have a good relationship with FO you'll be fine. Those policies are ment to stop Joe Random and all stadiums have them.

Tho I didn't see balloons on RFK list, they might have to add that soon :D

no tailgating... well I thought that comes with territory ;)

I'm happy with anything that has potential to rid the game of those annoying plastic horns.

For tailgating -

Don't stress, yet. I think the BBBulldog is right. Be cool, talk to the FO, get the information directly from them for supporters groups.

Find out the parameters. No open bottles of beer? Cups? Grills? Sandwiches? etc.

maybe you can tailgate somewhere near stadium or something.

it would be pity to not be able to do it that's one and only uniquely American thing that supporter groups do, and very cool in my opinion =) or you could do Euro thing and hit a bar before game if there are any in SLC :D

Aren't there any pubs nearby the stadium? Get some pints there, and pick up some fish and chips on the way, and you should be good!

No illegal drugs?!? I knew Salt Lake was straight-laced but this is ridiculous. :D

The papers from the stadium and team were a serious CYA attempt and nothing more.

Tailgating and flagpoles are a go...
Just that the team and stadium have "officially" prohibited them so they are not liable for any injuries from poles or food poisoning from tailgates...

It is simple really just do it at your own risk and you are liable... not the team or the stadium!

Carry on!

I hear Utah is like the jello eating capital (just keep your shots away from the kids!)

Sorry to butt in...

My wife and I are making the trip for the game; not sure how many others are.

It sounds like tailgating is actually happening (which is good), so the question is where do we need to stop by to say hi and discuss the beautiful game?

Our tailgate plans
Saturday morning at 10:30 Loyalists will gather at Rice Eccles Stadium
to rehearse the presentation of the jersey before the game. This is
the monster jersey that was unveiled in Park City in March. We need
plenty of body- the jersey weighs 250 lbs!- but participants should be
dues paying members and wear RED. Loyalist shirt or Real gear!

Following the rehearsal we will tailgate in the southwest corner of
the West Lot. Bring a dish and a couple of bucks. Tailgate fair will
vary week to week. This week the menu is burgers and hotdogs. BYOB.

Has someone gotten on the horn with Pastorino about this?

People outside Utah are going to be watching this real close because what you establish will probably color the landscape for USA-Costa Rica.....

Yeah, everything's cool. That "prohibited items" list was required by the stadium to cover themselves in case something happens. It's not going to really be enforced.

Good to hear. Please make sure that if there are any hiccups, they get resolved. Your efforts are much appreciated.
