I asked this before, but I cannot find the thread. When you get in early to park (like noon) at RFK and to help set up, you go with your parking pass to an entrance, but I forget which one it is? lot 5? I have to get to lot 8, but they have those gates in lockdown until 3:30.

They should have the gates open earlier, but then again it's the DC Stadium Commission.
All Gates Will be OPen! Trust us...

Brilliant!
There used to be an employee entrance off Independence Ave, SE (the sign now says Media). I think this is what you are looking for. No idea if will be accessible on Sat (don't know where the employee parking is now).

So where do the guys who set up the bumpy castle and the stage in lot 8 get in? Is it there? Couldn't you get in somewhere over by where cirque de soleil was and then drive under the bridge?

So, I should probably rephrase the question:
does anybody get to lot 8 before 3:30, and if so, how do they do it?

Im still trying to work out HOW TO GET TO Lot 8 from Montgomery County. LaStort has been trying to help me, but im hopeless (mostly just afraid of getting lost in SE again - once was enough)
Anyone wanna help me out? ;)

No need to be afraid of getting lost in SE. Just go with the flow. :)

can you get to 295? if so, travel eastbound and follow the old, withered signs to RFK stadium. Essentially stay in the far left lane of 295 eastbound through the city and it will come to a dead end at the entrance to RFK stadium, lot 8. But it'll look like you're driving into a state park. You cannot see the stadium from that entrance.
Just use mapquest without an address for washington and it'll center you on the capitol. get to 295 (a quarter mile below it, and follo it until it dead ends. into RFK's grounds.
Hope that helps.

this is how yahoo maps has me going (i cut out everything before I get to 495, even i can do that ;) )
Merge onto I-495 EAST - go 9.6 mi
7. Continue on I-95 SOUTH - go 3.5 mi
8. Take exit #22B/BALT onto MD-295 SOUTH toward WASHINGTON - go 6.5 mi
9. MD-295 SOUTH becomes DC-295 SOUTH - go 1.9 mi
10. Take the EAST CAPITOL STREET exit onto E CAPITOL ST SE - go 0.7 mi
11. Continue on C ST NE - go 0.4 mi
12. Turn on 22ND ST NE - go < 0.1 mi
13. Continue on E CAPITOL ST NE - go 0.1 mi
14. Arrive at 2400 E CAPITOL ST NE, WASHINGTON, on the
That sound about right? Looking at the map, that takes me to the FRONT of RFK, not lot 8..but I figure if I can get that far, finding an entrence to lot 8 shouldnt be too too hard.

OK, I created a map from MapPoint, then went to http://maps.google.com and grabbed a couple of satellite images because the maps don't show parking lots.
Here's the map:

And the maps

The first satellite image shows where I-395 dead ends, but it really doesn't. If you're coming from Northern VA, just follow the signs for the "RFK Access Road."
The second image is blown up a little more and shows how to get into lot 8 from Independence Ave.

Bingo. Once you've figured out how to get to it from the dead end into lot 8, you'll never mess with another way.

Thats where yahoo maps has me arriving, via 295..i assume from there I can circle around somehow and find a lot 8 entrence?

Well, I do, but only because I drive south on North Capitol Street, hang a left onto H, then a right onto 3rd, then stop by Schneider's of Capitol Hill to buy Belgian beer, then get on Mass Ave heading south east, and stay on Mass until I get to Lincoln Circle (which is actually more of a rectangle), where I hang a left onto 3rd St SE, then I hang a right onto East Capitol, then go past the Armory, followed by a half right onto the unmarked street next to 22nd St SE, then take that little piece of pavement that looks a little lighter than the other asphalt on the blow-up image, take a left onto Independence, then take a right into the north side of Lot 8.
It's quite simple, actually. :D

Yeah, what you want to do is not turn to where the star is. Keep going around the stadium and bear left onto that unmarked street. Then you'll cut across to Independence on that little piece of lighter colored pavement. That's much easier than trying to get into the lot by continuing your circle, because you'd have to cut across three lanes of traffic to Lot 8, and if you miss the turn you'd have to go back across the river again.

Natty weren't you at all of the Barra tailgates last year? Did you forget how to get there or recently have a car become available to you or what?

Thats where yahoo maps has me arriving, via 295..i assume from there I can circle around somehow and find a lot 8 entrence?Correct, but you may have to do some creative driving to cross the four lanes of traffic in a tenth of a mile after passing the Lot 5 entrance :) On the plus side, it's a big circle and you can go around as many times as you want :)
You should just move to Northern Virginia where the cool people live :)
edit: Mike is 100% correct to take the gravel road that cuts over to Ind. Ave., but I didn't want to confuse you (any further)........

Don't make that last right to the star just stay straight and as you come around to the opposite side of RFK you'll have to merge with like 4 lanes of traffic to get to the lot 8 entrance.
