Not if you heard him talking about it. He called it 'flattering', but the possibility of it shortening his cricket career he dismissed out of hand.

If it happens at all, it'll only be after Cricket Australia decide they no longer want him on contract. Cricketers finish up in their mid-to-late 30s, wheras hitters in baseball often play well into their 40s. But with zero experience in the sport, I think the prospect's frankly laughable.

I can't see Adam Gilchrist going over to America to play Baseball, not even after his cricket career finishes.

I think learning to wear one glove rather than two could be a sticking point:)

You mean, learning to wear a grocery bag to one hand rather than two gloves?

Yeah, and having to wear what can only be described as pin-striped plus fours rather than whites.

There are two Pakistani guys who i reckon could've made it at Baseball - Abdul Razzaq and Shahid Afridi.

BTW, How fast can the fastest pitcher pitch the ball in Baseball?

I think i heard somewhere that Randy Johnson has pitched a ball at about a ton. Most fast balls about 85-90 mph methinks. Curve balls, sliders and the like considerably slower, as its placement and fooling the batter, rather than power.

So pretty much exactly the same as International fast bowlers in Cricket.

fastballs are in the mid 90s, some closers (the guys who finish the games) hit the high 90s.

Adam Gilchrist interviewed on Perth radio yesterday morning abut his retirement and Baseball prospects. (He lives in Perth)
He said he will play through including the 2007 World Cup dismissing all the media reports to the contrary. He is now 33 years old and would go on until he thought he should retire.

Just laughed when asked about baseball rumour, then said he had had no official contacts from anyone but thought it was a great media story.

Was then asked about the upcoming test series in England. Adam said the whole Aussie team was really fired up for this series. He remarked that playing against the "old enemy" was the ultimate for Aussie cricketers, and England was stronger than in previous years. They will now have 6 wks off cricket to prepare.
Apparently he said the 1st and 2nd tests already sold out in April and interest was huge in England.
Good interview I thought

Gilchrist will never realistically play Major League Baseball-As Greg Chappell correctly pointed out, even if is body is physically cabable of excelling at that level it's A game that requires an intimate understanding of the various throwing, pitching etc situations. It's not something you can learn overnight-nor a chance a club paying such huge money is likely to take on a player in his mid 30's.

One man who I think could have been sensational in the MLB is Andrew Symonds. The world's best all-round fielder equipped with incredible reflexes and absolutely pinpoint accurate cannon utilised in any and all situations, the ability to hit the ball further than anyone in world cricket and capable of running the 100 in 11 seconds. Could have been a sensation as a shortstop or outfielder.

Oh yes, Andrew Symonds, the one that got away. The brummie turned aussie.
We should have refused to allow his parents to get on that bloody plane!! :)

Still, we have a true englishman in our side now, Kevin "Afrikaaner" Pietersen! lol
