There may come a day when the World Cup Champion is not from UEFA or CONMEBOL. With each cycle that goes, the top alwyas rise but there are some nations and teams that are consistently improving and over time, may make it to the pinnacle for World Cup victory. Question is, where will the country hail from?
The options right now are CAF, AFC, CONCACAF and Oceana. Here are a few teams from each:
CAF: Morocco, Egypt, Cameroon, Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Senegal, Tunisia
AFC: Saudi Arabia, Japan, S. Korea, China, Iran, Thailand, . (maybe sometime Austrlalia)
CONCACAF: Costa Rica, Mexico, USA, Honduras, Guatemala, Canada, Jamaica, etc.
Oceana: Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Soloman Island... hmm...

I am voting for CAF. Not because I think they are neccesarily a stonger region but because they will be the next continent to host the tournament. (Not counting Germany 2006 which will be won by a UEFA or CONMEBOL team) If Mexico were to host the WC again in the near future then I definitely think they could win it.

Oceania: never, especially since Australia leaving for the AFC (my bet is starting on 1 January 2006) will spell the demise of any pretence of even a small amount of quality in the confederation.
The sooner Oceania is disbanded & totally absorbed into AFC the better for all concerned.
Australia will never be a contender for WC Champions until football becomes the pre-eminent sport (and all that brings) in AUS. This is not likely within the next 50 years, due to the strength of the entrenchment of the other competing sports.

Only a team with a strong home-league is able to compete for the World Cup.
No african team can provide such a league.
The SouthKorean league is pretty good. So I vote for them.

That may be true but Australia have made improvements in the game.
The A-League should be something special. What is really annoying are Farina's playing tactics for the Socceroos. Look at the scorelines of our recent internationals and the opposition we played. We could have done a lot better.
The region that has a chance to win the World Cup is CAF. Africa has some quality nations but their not consistent though WC 2010 is only a few years away.
Mexico don't seem to make it past the second round and I felt the Asians relied on home advantage last time.

I think we can become a contender without football becoming the pre-eminant sport, but it has to be a lot higher profile than now. What we need is a strong national league and regular international competition. AFC will provide the latter, and its up to us to get the league going. If we can do this we can match the performance of South Korea at the last World Cup. Personally I think this is acheivable by 2020.

Mexico with all the talent they have should have won it already. The should have won it when they or the US hosted or when a South American country hosted. We know they cant win it if its hosted in Europe, Asia or Africa their best chance is in the Americas.

either the U.S or one of Asian nations. but it's not going to be in another 30 years. Even Spain and Netherlands havent won it.
After having some Korean players play regularly in Europe, I finally understood when all the Europeans used to say that their players need more time to play as a national team rather than their club teams. I think we're going to see a cycle.
Better players your national team gets, more they play abroad.
More player abroad, less time to play together as national team.
Less time to play together, weaker your NT gets.
This keeps going UNTIL your players get so good, that they can play well without having to practice for months. We see U.S getting better and South Korea making it to the semis with luck, (is this the first time non-European or South American team went so far?) once their players start to play in European leagues with league, cup and cl schedule, their national team will get weaker.

The USA actually reached the semifinals in the original 1930 tournament. Other than that... it's been pretty much all UEFA and CONMEBOL.
