Kaiserslautern Coach Jara Quits
FRANKFURT, April 6 (Reuters) - Austrian Kurt Jara stepped down as Kaiserslautern coach on Wednesday after deciding not to seek an extension to his contract.
Kaiserslautern said in a statement that Jara had informed them that he did not wish to continue beyond the end of the season, and the two parties agreed to terminate his contract immediately.
Jara joined Kaiserslautern 14 months ago after losing his job at Hamburg SV and kept them in the top flight.
He leaves the club in a comfortable 11th place in the Bundesliga, despite a 2-0 home defeat by Hannover 96 on Saturday.

The headline should be: Jara forced out. Jara may not be the best coach in the world, but I think he did a great job at FCK. This was a club that, through spectacular mismanagement, was on the verge of going out of existence. Despite those financial problems, and despite the roster limitations those financial problems imposed, Jara avoided relegation last year and, this year, has offered a product far better than what I expected. This team really looks like it has turned a corner. But I guess that's not good enough for the delusional management/fans of FCK. Good lord, if FCK drives Jara out based on his performance to date, who on god's green earth, looking at all the problems this club has, would want the job. The next coach is doomed to fail (at least in FCK's eyes).

I agree with wolfsburgh. Jara did a good job with Kaiserslautern by avoiding relegation last year and even improving the team, despite the departure of strong strike partners Klose and Lokvenc. I don't think he was forced out, i think he chose to quit because he wasn't shown the respect that he clearly deserved. We'll have to see how the next coach does, but it would not be surprising to see the management kicking themselves in a few months time.

I agree that Jara did a good job, but he didn't "improve the team". Their "General Manager" Rene Jaeggi did that.
To respond to a comment wolfsburgh made about Jara's helping when they were financially strapped, Jaeggi is the one who saved FCK when the club looked to be going down the toilet, not Jara. Jaeggi is the one who brought Jara in.
But overall, I do agree that Jara was the victim of unrealistic expectations.

He might not actually be a bad choice! But the Kaiserslautern fans would never go for it.
My friend who runs the "kwd" FCK forum at Yahoogroups suggested Bruno Labbadia.......

I don't think Matthäus could be a successful Bundesliga coach. The media attention he would get would cause more trouble than it would be worth.

This compares drastically to Monchengladbach's coach, Dick Advocaat, who's done nothing for the team but bring it down and he's still around!!

What they need is stability in whoever takes over permenently. They have made great strides to avoid relegation, so they need a strong leader to keep them from ending up at the bottom, as we have seen they can go from Meister to almost falling out of the league in such a short time.
