Bah, to consider the Timbers rivals we'd have to think them worthy in the first place. Timbers aren't even going to make the playoffs this season.

Will you eat your hat if they do?

Don't worry about your precious hats, I'll be more than happy to ship a brand new Timbers hat complete with salt and pepper to you as soon as the Timbers qualify.

Just some things to think about. Portland lost a few top players. Portland has 5 back to back games this season. Edmonton is no longer in the league and Portland had the best success of any team in the league playing Edmonton wining all 4 games, scoring 6 goals each in 3 games (I believe) and winning the 4th by forfeit. Portland had a really good schedule last season, this season they dont.

Until the Timbers find a forward or two to score some of the goals Gordon contributed last year I would be reluctant to say they are a certain playoff team. But the team does have its core back and the defense will be better this year with Scot Thompson playing the entire year. A key part of the schedule is a brutal four-game road trip in June to Rochester-Toronto-Puerto Rico-Vancouver.

Krammer,
You seem confident that Portland won't sign four or five quality players in the coming weeks. If that's the case, then I'd agree with you, but I don't think Jim Taylor and company are going to stand pat at this time. Expect more and possibly better Timbers on the horizon.

I just had to revive this thread to look at this quote and cry. We were all so optimistic then weren't we? JT had something up his sleeve! We definitely were going to get a great forward and midfielder! :(

Well despite everything, despite all of the injuriies, despite all of the cuts and desertions and lack of signings we somehow have managed to find ourselves in the hunt for a plyoff spot.

Krammer may still be eating that hat :D

straight up, finn. unless puerto rico nails the impact in both of their back to back games (in montreal) and we show poorly home and away against richmond (not gonna happen!), i think we'll hold onto that playoff spot like a pit bull with lockjaw.

is aaran healthy for this weekend?

Here in Rochester we love the Timbers...wish we could play them everyday.

Aaron is healthy but no Scot against Shittle and then we have that Southern road trip from hell which will do us no favors.

Let's home they channel the spirit of Sherman on that march.

As for Rochester, yeh you guys have smoked us this year, IMHO you are a more talented team than Montreal especially with Montreal losing Grande and Gerba.

Yeah, old Krammer must be sweating a bit right now. Should be an interesting four weeks.

I see nothing to sweat about right now. Portland won't be making the playoffs.

I think instead of saying the defense would be better I meant to say that it would be older.
