It should be noted after flying back to England and being kicked in the shin by repeatedly on this board ;) , Claudio Reyna played a strong 90 minutes for Man City who came seconds away from claiming 3 points at the Valley...and across town, Brian McBride came on as a 2nd half substitute and led Fulham on a 3 goal assualt...scoring the 2nd/eventual game winner/eventual relegation-saver himself. Just nice to see the old guys dodging all the dirt many are trying to throw on the grave! :)

Admittedly I only watched bits and pieces of the match, but it seemed every time Claudio touched the ball he gave it away. Now, first, I have always been a fan of Reyna and appreciate the role he plays on teams. Second, as I mentioned, I didn't see the whole game, but only snatches. Third, my TV is not that big and the picture was not high def and my eyes are a bit old so I sometimes get the players switched around.
So, good to hear that you thought he had a good game. Is there a second on that, preferrably from an unbiased source? I hope he's doing well there.

He gave it away here and there as he tired but his first five crosses all hit their mark perfectly and weren't goals because of some good defending. He was put on the wing for just that reason in my opinion. The whole team played well. He won't take the spot from Wright-Phillips but his passing continually gets him a spot on these professional teams, under numerous coaches, in different leagues...but we all know better here on Big Soccer.

I think all that I saw was the second half. He really should have pulled the trigger instead of try and cross it, but given the position he normally plays it's understandable he'd look for the pass.

Reyna is an injury prone, ageing and average EPL mid field player....think he would get a look in with England were he English...?...not a chance....time to move on from this and do a "Tab Ramos" on Reyna....

Reyna is an (snip, snip) average EPL mid field player....
That's supposed to be an insult? I guess if there was an English NBA player and he was 'average' he wouldn't be a national hero in England.

Do we have a midfielder that would get a look between Gerrard, Lampard, in-form Cole & Spicey Man?
All I'm saying is, despite all our advances, the Prem isn't loaded with Americans, and it just happened that 2 played well this weekend after travelling back from international duty.
Not voting those guys for '06, just saying good job for here and now.

What's wrong with showing a little loyalty to these two? Especially McBride. They are both great examples for younger players that show incredible perserverence(sp?), work ethic and sacrifice for their country. I for one would take a guy with a huge heart with a little something of talent left (albeit a little on the downslope) over a whiny-but-talented mamma's boy (read LD). I would give McBride a spot on the WC roster not just to reward him for his service but because he can still contribute on the world stage talent-wise, or for just his pure leadership-by-example that ninnies like LD sorely need. I mean the guy puts his body on the line for club and country day in and day out, gets dissed with bench assignments, travels around the world just to sit the bench and never says a friggin word. That's the kind of guy I want in my foxhole. LD would just get fragged. I'd rather lose with McBride than win with LD. But winning with both would be optimum and doable.

This is about as relevant (for this thread) as me asking you whether you think that Cooper would get a look in with USA at this moment!!

Not unbiased here, but I thought it was about as good as I've seen Reyna play in a long time. he was also good defensively.

McBride's goal was in the 81st minute...the game is not on FSC schedule the rest of the week though, so you won't be able to see it there.
I'm watching the Man City match right now, and I'm wondering if I am hearing things correctly...are the fans chanting "USA" in support of Reyna?
Just wondering.

So was the sprained ankle just anexcuse to get Reyna quickly back to England on BOAC? Good for McBride. One more year in England should be good for his pension.

I didn't see the game, but Sky Sports rated Reyna an 8.

The McHead v. LD lines are right on...LD caught a 'cold' before his first Galaxy match!??
Hilarious. Our future captain (?) blazing new trails. The hard man cometh.
Punter.
Heart and soul of USMNT riding w. Claudio and McB. We'll sorely miss these guys. I hurl on them, now & then, but more about BA's wisdom (lack of) in how they're used.

...he wouldn't....as very, very, few in England care about freaks of nature playing glorified "net ball".....and if one is 7'6" (shawn bradley) then one is a freak....

Gimme a break.
In England a goofball who flies off a ski ramp like a one-wing duck is a national hero.
