Last year Porto eliminated Lyon and Monaco and this year PSV eliminated Monaco and Lyon. I think that a loss is much easier to swallow if you lose to a big rich club as opposed to losing to a smaller club. If French teams got eliminated by Milan, Juve, Barcelona, Inter, Chelsea, etc then I think I wouldnt be that upset because those are the elite rich teams but getting eliminated by teams like Porto and PSV that is much more difficult for me to take and accept. I know money alone doesnt make you a good team but its easier to accept and admit defeat when you lose to a team that has a ton of money as opposed to a team thats not nearly as wealthy.

PS:What happend to Lyon's start studded midfield :D
Govou was too busy worrying about where he wants to play next year :-) The Lyon supporters are really gonna let him have it the next home match. I wanna see a chorus of boos for him. You dont announce to the media right before a big match that you want to leave your team. Your suppose to keep your mouth shut and say all the right things. He picked the wrong time to announce his departure.

You've just proven you knew sh!t about the game, if you need stats to have an opinion, please don't bother annoying us with your posts...
i personally think stats are more reliable than biased fans opinion on the referee.

Many PSV fans must cleaning the crap out of their pants at the moment...
of course!! Lyon played well. But now, PSV has two more Champions League matches to prepare for, so if you would now excuse them... :)

I'm obviously happy about the PSV win but I also find it a shame that Lyon are out, as they play far more attractive football than the Italians and the English. I'd rather have had PSV beat Chelsea, Inter or Juve. So commisserations to all of you.
Overall I think PSV deserved to go through simply because they were the cleverer, more grown-up side. I also think Lyon slightly underestimated them, after the draw for the quarters the French players and managers spoke openly to the press about being the favourites and you don't ever want to do that especially not when you're playing PSV, who are tough as nails.

Thanks a lot for the diplomacy ;)

If you want...I think i stated the same for the Monaco match, PSV were stronger mentally, that's for sure.

Again, no, no and no !! Put things in context, Lyon thrashed Bremen, the whole press and cunning Hiddink made Lyon the favourite for the tie, Le Guen just accepted that fact. Once again, you really want to understand it the way that suits you...Le Guen basically said : we're in the favourite position for that match and talked about what he thought were his team's assets, that's all, no big deal. But if you find it sweeter that the arrogant French side has been thrown out by the frank hard-working honnest tiny PSV, as you wish.

Nope, that's due to your own insecurity & prejudgemental mentality. All i said was that PSV beat Lyon fair & square...........full stop.
Except they did not beat Lyon neither fair, neither square...They qualified which is a bit different. The tie was close anyway, so I didn't say that PSV did not deserve that at all.

I wonder how the PSV fans would have reacted had they been denied a penalty and had the whistle blown just as one of their players was lining up a shot inside the penalty area?

That's what managers do, bro. Relax. If it motivates his players through big talk then so be it.
As for the game, PSv deserved their win, but Lyon's offense was definitely sharper, more precise, and more threatening. They were razor edge. It's just that PSV played better as a unit than Lyon did. Lyon looked out of sorts at midfield.
Wir haben eine sieger ! Yes, I agree with you.
IMO, there was a penalty though but that is not enough to explain why Lyon did not succeed.

I agree Le Guen was fairly low key about it, but still (as you say) he accepted it as FACT that Lyon were favourites. More importantly though, the OL chairman's words were much stronger and clearly misplaced. Anyway, I don't mind, it has served PSV well.
Now for the semis, Milan are the clear favourites. No doubt about it. ;)

Good for you, I suppose.

Whoever the moderator on this board is, is being called the term he used (where he alters my post), acceptable on here? I just posted a comment on the thread about the match, stating an opinion about the tactic a team used. Why the personal attack? And why is it allowed?
If you dont think you can engage me on substance, why not just be quiet?

And now you're coming back here to cry to mama (mod)?
You came here to troll, you moron, and I'll treat you
like one. This is the "France" forum, this thread was
about a Lyon CL game and I took it personnaly (Lyon
is where I'm from). You came right after the game
to write:
"I have to say I am glad PSV advanced","What a dirty
team Lyon are","I am glad Lyon did not make it through"
Did you post this in PSV's thread, on the Dutch forum?
Or on the Beasley's thread, in the YA forum?
No, right? You just had to come here and rub it in.
Now go try this crap in any club/country's NT forum on this
website after a tough loss (PK's),for a very important
game and see the reactions. But you know that already,
don't you? You're just playing stupid, right?

???? How the hell am I trolling ??? Isn't this what a forum is all about?
Possible a wrong word on my part, sorry about that - but please don't start critcising people's right to actually hold their own opinon.
Other than that your well in your justification to express your own opinon, of course - just understand that this is the french forum and you will hear bias towards the French team.
As for eveyone else please do not write inflammitory posts designed to wind up the people here - you have your own board to do that.
If you want to come here and start a constructed debate then please do so - if you want to come here and blantly slag Lyon off - it is considered trolling - discussing how they went about the game in a concise and coherent fashion is not.
GersMan and fish, just cut it out and keep it back on track. We don't want these threads descending into a bitch slapping match.

Damn it. This is all I had to look forward to since no one wants to challenge Lyon for the Ligue 1 crown...

The dutch guy that is saying PSV have beaten Lyon "fair and square" must have completely forgotten the first match ... (plus, like it's been said, the result is 2 draws and the aggregate is 2-2)
just to remind you :
http://www.eurosport.co.uk/home/pages/v4/l2/s22/e6885/sport_lng2_spo22_evt6885_sto704937.shtml
Btw, they're mentionned as "favourites" ...
Little quote : "They are favourites, 60 to 40 in my opinion," Hiddink said.
Another thing is about the surmised "arrogance" of the Lyon, let me quote you some declarations of Paul Le Guen before the match :
"Like us, PSV don't attract a lot of media attention but we know they are a very powerful side and they have a lot of experience because a lot of their players play for their national team."
"We'll face them with all due respect. I would rather have played away first but we are going to adapt ourselves to the situation."
So don't try make you little honest guys and Lyon the wealthy and arrogant side ...
