We should have a coach like Mourinho in our national team. He just knows how to assemble a great team in just 2 or 3 months, he has the ability to get the right players in the right place and he is so methodical that he knows everything about the opponents and how to beat them. The concentration his players have...it is incredible- and his players know that if they do what is planned, they will surely WIN. I saw that in F.C.Porto, i am seeing that in Chelsea and i would certainly see that if he could coach our team .
And if we canīt get Mourinho, we should get Eriksson...or Beenhaker or Hiddink.

I'd rather have a coach with integrity....like Arena.

I swear to God why do you and these other shmucks want Arena out so badly? Do you think that he can't get the job done? Look at what he has done so far. It's getting to the point where all you Anti-Arena people are getting so boring and stupid it's becoming a joke.
Yes he tried something at the Azteca that didn't work at the same time he had new players in there to use because he was forced too due to injury. 31 match unbeaten streak against CONCACAF opponents & a 16 match unbeaten streak against all opponents before they lost in Azteca to Mexico. Isn't that enough for you?
I was ready to march with my friends into the Bronx where there is a heavy Mexican community and hold up signs that we defeated them in the Azteca, but sadly it didn't happen, because Arena tried a new formation and a new tactic that didn't work. It's happened to the best coaches in some of the biggest qualifiers in Europe & in South America.
You anti-Arena posters have got to give it up. Bruce isn't going anywhere until he decides to go. He may stay for an unpresidented 3rd cycle, or he will end his National Team duty.
Deal with it folks & give it up. Mourinho is never going to leave Chelsea with all of Abromovich's money. He will never come to the States to coach an MLS side or our National Team. Whoever you are going to pick or wish that particular coach of a club team in Europe is going to come over here for the USSF will never come.
They don't want to be here, Bruce "Almighty" Arena is our General to lead us to the 2006 World Cup. He has done everything the right way. Some results haven't been good, but for the majority he has done a spectacular job.
DEAL WITH IT AND SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Assemble a team in 2-3 months? He had a team built for him + he's just had to pull in a couple extras to help keep the ship steaming forward.
I'm asll for USMNT having a foreign coach, but it has to be the right one.

Apparently you've forgotten that Mourinho grabbed the UEFA Cup in '03, and the Champions League Title in '04. Back to back titles, via Porto of all teams. I don't like the guy much, but he's an amazing coach. However, I'm also very happy with Arena, for the most part. I celebrated like a mad man the second he was hired and have been happy ever since. We were very lucky to hire him, the absolute perfect coach to follow the Sampson debacle. We'll just have to see if back to back is wise. I think it will be.

Coaching a national team is much different than managing a club side. Apples and oranges, really.
Whichever is deemed easier, that's all very relative. But there are tons of other variables and attributes that have to be taken into account from one discipline to the other.
However, success at club level doesn't automatically translate to success on the international stage. If that was untrue, then Louis van Gaal would have led Holland to a World Cup title by now.

Also, I've made a small change to the title, so it doesn't look like either a newsflash or a bombshell.
It's a semantical change, but more accurate. :)

I would also like to have Ronaldihno as or a-mid. This isn't going to happen. Imagine what that phone call would sound like, Hey jose, you wanna leave chelsea and come coach the us nats. Come on.

Bruce, if memory serves, makes about $750K annually for coaching the Nats...
I would expect that's chump change to Mourinho and pretty much every other coach at one of the big Euro clubs...
Why would he want to take the pay cut? Why would any of them?
That's the thing that always irks me whenever one of these threads pop up...we can't afford any of these guys and they don't do charity work...
That, and there's no guarantee they wouldn't bolt the gig the minute Real Chelsea Bayern United came calling with their checkbook...

Bruce is one of the best coaches in the world- regardless of sport. We are extremely fortunate to have him on our side. I hope he is USMNT coach 4 life.

It is a good point. And more often than not I think it holds true. But I wouldn't be suprised to see some here and there interested in the job. It's a different type of job. And no offense to any US coachs, I would imagine the pressure and media coverage and expectations are relatively nice and managable compared to working for a club in the prem. I'd also assuem the hours are much closer to something than than those jobs. That said, I still find it hard to see a manager coming into their prime ready to take on such a job.

Jose Mourinho is probably one of the most egocentric managers in the world. I find it hard to believe that, with his hubris, he would go to a country where the majority of people can't name the current national team manager, all the while taking a pay cut.

IF we had an opportunity to hire a coach of Morihno's stature after The Bruce's time is done I would be for it. The guy may have had a team built for him at Chelsea but look what he has done since that time. Additionally, the things he did at Porto are legendary in my eyes. He has cemented himself as one of the greatest managers in the world, imo, and I hate Chelsea.

Mourinho would be great in the sense that, by comparison, he'd make Mr. Warner look like a man of integrity....
But no, thank you.....

Winning big as USA national team mananger would appeal to any egomaniac because A) It is a monster challenge B) the celebrity recieved in the United States by winning big would be unparalleled. How many soccer personalities are household names in the US?
