Well of course someone can, but how likely is it ?

I think the ’06 team will be clearly superior to the three previous Brazil WC teams, and the host won’t be as strong as France in 98.

I would put the probability of Brazil winning it at 50%, making them one of the biggest favorites ever.

If anyone could upset them it could be England.

Our coach is the other countries only hope. (and our only worry)

If we still had someone like Luxemburgo, Scolari, or even Emerson Leão, I would say our probabilties of winning it again would be 80%.

I think Pareira is doing everything right so far. He has a settled system and a settled group of players. You’re doing much better in these qualifiers than under Luxemburgo and Leao.

Even Scolari had some ********ups(what was Luizao doing in that WC squad), but was saved by Ronaldo’s form and overall individual quality.

Brazil has a great deal of quality; however, unbeatable, NO way.

In the last tourney, they had the benefit of avoiding a lot of the traditionally stronger sides that would have definitely given them problems. As a matter of fact, I thought that Turkey outplayed them and were unlucky to progress; however, football is football, and Brazil found a way to get through.

Furthermore, if people followed the last Copa America, Argentina actually had a better side that the admittedly watered-down Brazil team. Argentina is also leading WC qualifying for CONMEBOL. Therefore they are a team to watch out for.

Finally, the WC will be played in Europe, and history tells us that this strongly favors a European side lifting the trophy. Germany, after Brazil, is the most successful side in World Cup play and they will be at home. While they do not seem to impressive at the moment, they always seem to have the pedigree to get it done when it matters, particularly at the WC. Italy are also very close to home and are a difficult team to beat so they are another obvious contender. Also, Europe's other key contenders include England, Portugal, Spain and Holland. However, I am a bit concerned with these countries tending to fold up in the WC. Nevertheless, they will be forces to be reckoned with in Europe. Lastly, there is always a dark horse to come out and surprise everyone. It will be interesting to see just who that is next summer. The Czechs may be a candidate for that role, though the international retirement of Nedved probably hurt their chances.

Brazil should be the rightful favorites as the defending champions and because of their great international footballing history, that is second to none. However, I am betting that a European team will win.

Playing in South America we have the benefit of the easiest group to qualify from (although it is the toughest one to win). Parreira's only concern is who will fit on the team for the World Cup and how to prepare them once the time comes. He is doing an excellent job.

Brasil is close to unbeatbale when they have a month to prepare for a match or a tournament ... the reason why they struggle in qualifying is because the club teams schedule in Europe is too much for players like ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Kaka and others to overcome ... In 06, they'll be rested and ready to add a 6th title

tru tru, but South American teams ae always tough especially at home, at we always play Brazil tough because its like measuring stick, so teams play like its a final to see where there at, so they can say hey we cang with anyone then.

good point, what team does not go all out when playing Brazil. Heck if Uruguay played everybody like they play Brazil, they would be contenders for the WC.

Think about it. Half the teams from your region qualify. HALF. That's more than any other region, which is why its easier to qualify.

Heck if Uruguay played everybody like they play Brazil, they would be contenders for the WC.If everyone went all out against Brazil we'd be getting easy wins at home against the smaller teams. The exact opposite happens, they shut down completely and don't play their game.

4 weaknesses for Brazil:

1) CAP;
2) Roberto Carlos;
3) Cafu; and
4) Ronaldo

Ronaldo still has a chance to find his form by WC06. Cafu is still quality, but not what he used to be and getting older and older. RC is becoming a bigger and bigger liability. CAP sucks for Brazil imo.

Apolgist no, nor are you a supporter of his good work.

So far there is little to complain about (insistence on Roque Jr. being one of the few). And much to be happy about - more stability, long-term view towards the national team, and more willigness to play the backups then he showed before (take Copa America and even the qualifiers for example compared to Confed 2003 and WC 1994 and qualifiers).

Yes, How about:

Netherlands
Czech Republic
Portugal
Italy
Spain (If they finally come good)
Argentina
Ecuador ;)

I'd say England too but I don't want to start a riot.
