of course, a decent job with the draw with costa rica yesterday. this should help us and mexico separate ourselves from the pack. but perhaps even more important ....

.... was the drubbing they took at the hands, err feet, of guatemala this past weekend. that had to have contributed to guatemala's belief/decision that they could play us straight up last nighgt, which in turn allowed us to more easily get into the run and gun style that we saw last night. of course, we might well have gotten the same result had they elected to bunker, but it was definitely more fun and entertaining for us this way, and i can't believe guatemala wouldn't have been better off (i.e., at least had a chance) with a more defensively oriented game strategy. i'll take it and run. thanks t&t.

costa rica was very fortunate to get the 2-1 win against panama on saturday, so I just think this is more evidence of a decline in the ticos....

perhaps they get their act together, but based on the hex thus far, guatemala is my pick for 3rd!!

If anybody likes conspiracy theories, I'm starting to think Sampson was secretly working for the USSF when he took the Tico job. They might never recover from his "leadership", which makes qualifying all the easier for us. :)

Good call. I agree that Guatemala was totally out of their mind thinking they could play the US straight up like that. They were totally outclassed and outgunned from the opening whistle. Maybe they'll learn their lesson and bunker vs. Mexico (a double thank you to T and T in this case!).
