looking at owen's performance last night reminds me of drogba, who missed loads of glorious chances for chelsea this season. i just think owen's been like off the spell after joining madrid. if i were Sven,i would prefer usng Defoe over Owen...well,i think Defoe's got a better forst touch compared to owen . if it was Defoe playing in the place of Owen last night,or even Peter Crouch, i believe they would've converted those 3/4 wonderful chances missed by owen. his team-mates have been crossing in beautiful balls, and all he does is wasting their efforts.Drop Owen,Sven!!!!

He had a bad game and we still won so it didn't really matter. And will people stop mentioning Crouch and England together.

People seem to be p!ssed at Owen if he doesn’t score but he is only 2 away from topping the top COMPETATIVE goal scoring chart for England. He scores when it counts and that what I think we should keep reminding ourselves.

ok...forget about crouch then...back to the owen issue.
owen said before the game that if Poland beat Azerbaijan 8-0, England should score at least eight and he'd score five of them...and look owen yesterday....hah. he turned out becoming the laughing stock .owen must respect everyone. i mean,Who is Michael Owen anyway? What has he ever won in football? He plays for Real Madrid but is always on the bench. :p
oh,and where are those five goals yesterday night? :D

 Azerbaijan coach on Owen:"I have a history in football but what is the history of this guy, this midget? He ought to clean his tongue and wash the boots of David Beckham as they are so wet tonight."

Well Poland struggled far more against the micks than we did against the Azeri's so thats a moot point. And also I think Mr Alberto is the laughing stock in that saga.

Apart from Owen saying nothing of the sort, that's a valid point.

Who is Michael Owen anyway? What has he ever won in football?

Former European Footballer of the Year, has twice finished top scorer in the Premiership, won the FA Cup, the UEFA Cup, the Carling Cup, Super Cup.

Wow. That's quite some head of steam you have got up there in just 10 short posts, newbie.

PS - You may wish to check your understanding of any "news" you choose to comment upon in public. It will do your long-term prospects for eventually attaining some form of credibility on Bigsoccer the world of good.

I agree...Owen scores when it counts, he is a big game player...Azerbywallys doesn't count as a "big game"...

I think Owen should not get automatic selection to every England starting 11,
and have thought that since early 05. It is just too bad Sven has no intention
of lettinghm sit on the bench. For some reason Sven is unable or unwilling to make a decision that might ruffle the FA or the fans. Sven seems way to content in hte fact that they have qualified for 2 tournamment and made it out of the group stages in both. What they shold be looking at is their record vs top ranked teams in the world, which is awful.
Back to Owen, he wold benefit from a match on the bench, maybe light his fire again. Will be interesting to see who Sven starts up front with Rooney vs Wales as Owen will sit with suspension.
As long as Sven is coach of England they will win no major honors.

When the big games come around, you can rely on Owen. FA Cup finals, Euro and World Cup knockout stages, the guy pretty much always delivers. Defoe's time will come, but for the forseeable future if England get one good chance in a big knockout game, I would want it to fall to Owen, and would be pretty sure he could take it.

You know, you got a point, in loss to Portugal at Euro04 and loss to Brazil in WC02 it was Owen who scored opening goal both times, so what is missing?

Is that a trick question? The final result?

Owen has a great record for England and scores in the big games so why would you want to drop him? nobody else in our team has a goalscoring record that he has.
