Basically, I have 98 SE update, but I can't find my 98 disk. So if I can dowlnoad 3.1 or 95 for free, then I can use the SE Update disk. (I flushed the hard drive. OOPS!!)

No. Microsoft is pure evil. You can't even buy it anymore (legally).
I've often wondered what would happen if you installed windows 95 on a new 1Ghz machine. I mean, it was fast on a 90Mhz Pentium, it should be REALLY fast on a new machine, right?

let's see. No USB support, no firewire support. No DVD. Not written to make the most of newer processors, (relatively) huge amounts of RAM in new computers. Poor networking.

Why on earth would you want to run 3.1 or 95, or even 98 for that matter? Unless it was for sheer novelty's sake.
Otherwise, I'll bet you could find Win 3.1 on eBay..
I used to have Windows 2.0 on floppy disk, and Windows NT 3.0 on floppy as well. Those were the days :)

And you're waiting for the right moment to have them appraised by the Antique Roadshow, aren't you? ;)
