score 2-0
Robinson - 7.... made a couple of good stops when the defence got caught napping.
Neville -7 got forward and supported attack .solid defence.
A.cole - 5 pretty quiet game ,got caught sleeping in defence a couple of times with sloppy play.
Terry -5 Looked like he was half asleep for a large part of the game
Ferdinand - 6 reasonable display...
Beckham - 9 ..great display ,good goal ,high workrate
Lampard - 6 quiet game
Gerrard - 8 good passing and good goal .
J.Cole - 6 quiet compared to the N.I game
Owen - 4 worst game I seen him play since scotland @wembley in 2000 .wasted about 4 or 5 sitters and picked up a stupid booking that will rule him out for wales.
Rooney - 6 .looked abit out of sorts in the 1st half but picked up in the 2nd half.
subs..
king - 6 solid after coming on as sub
Defoe -6 no time to show anything
Dyer - 6 ashowed afew good touches

Robinson - 7.... Solid, never looked in danger and stayed alert during quiet periods
Neville - 7
A.cole - 5 Some poor passes. Seemed unable to weight simple balls
Terry - 6 Got caught out on one occasion and came forward occassionally.
Ferdinand - 6 One big mistake in playing an Azeri onside, quiet game.
Beckham - 5 shite, shite, shite, shite, shite. All over the place but unable to put one decent ball in. Poor passing, poor crossing. Saw waaaay too much of the ball for a player unable to deliver. Goal was well taken but that was his one bright point IMO
Lampard - 6 Twas alright, shooting was wayard early on but improved later.
Gerrard - 5 Overly ambitious with his passes. Annonymous at times and occasionally sloppy. Like Beckham his goals was one of the the few bright points, was rather fortunate with that too.
J.Cole - 6 Alright but got caught in posession a few times.
Owen - 2 ********ing appalling, couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo. Should have been taken off and replaced with Defoe. Silly Booking for handball, it was embarrassing.
Rooney - 6 Still has a lot to learn.
subs..
king - 6
Defoe -6 not time
Dyer - 6 selflessly gave Owen a good chance. But had little time really.

I thought everything was over or underhit. I don't remember too many balls getting to Owen at all.

At the start when posh remembered he was a right winger, he had some nice moments but when he forgot the rest of the match, he was mostly rubbish except for one diaginal long pass to Rooney and the goal which was well well taken. But then he also gave away the ball with a few just awful passes and always out of place; can get away with it today not against real teams. If Sven can't make him stay on the right doing the one thing he does well in open play then one of them has to go before Germany.

Neville -7.5 better from gary
A.cole - 6 had some good runs up but some sloppy defending
Terry -6
Ferdinand - 7 Rio was feeding the attack very well

Lampard - 7 almost scored on several occasions
Gerrard - 8 good passing good goal and good tackles
J.Cole - 5 nothing like on saturday

Subsitutes:
king - 6
Defoe -N/A
Dyer - 6.5 Got into the game quick and delivered some chances.

Sorry if this is off-topic but...
Isn't it abundantly clear now that Michael Owen made a mistake by going to Real Madrid? His lack of play has turned him into a shadow of the player he was a year or so ago. If you're Owen and RM doesn't unload either Ronaldo, Raul, or both over the summer, you've got to be looking to come back to the Premiership.

I completely agree but Real are also maybe leaning in to a swap between Owen and Arsenal striker Jose Antonio Reyes in the summer. Hopefully Mikey will be back home.

Beckham - ...wherever he was on the pitch today he did very well
HAHA. I would rep you all day long if I could for this line... Very well put. Most reciculous and meaningless card I have ever seen given. I don't know what happened to the "spirit of the game" clause. Possibly it can only be used negatively against a player?

No it is a topic that I was arguing on saterday. Nobody agreed with me and i had about twenty people telling me i knew nothing about football!! It takes owen 3-4 attempts to MAYBE get a goal. This has been going on a while now and i dont understand why it hasnt been more of an issue before. He used to be class, and more recently for england he has scored goals - but he has missed many, many more.

This was quite possibly the worst game I've seen Ashley Cole play for England. He was caught out of position constantly, played poor passes and had generally very little influence. I thought he was the worst player on the pitch.

Owen was the worst of the English players by some distance but if they had scored from the Terry howler I may of had to reconsider. A.Cole was alright I thought. And Beckham was head and shoulders above his team mates.

Were people joking about Beckham? He was by far the best player on the pitch. If Rooney and Owen managed to convert 20% of their chances only from Beckham's deliveries, each of them would have had a hat-trick. That was probably his best game for England since... Well, it's been a while.
Other than that - both Cole's were pretty bad, and Terry almost allowed a goal from Azerbaijan.

Robinson - 6 - 2 good stops, but fcuk all else to do!
Neville - 6 - got into good positions but his crossing was appalling, either over or under hit!
Rio - 6 - one of his better games, but one howler, where he headed the ball straight to them!
Terry - 6 - he made a c0ck-up too, but always looked to get forward!
Cole - 4 - absolute sh!te.
Beckham - 7 - more endeavour, but again the crosses were poo!
Gerrard - 7 - better last night, but still not himself!
Lampard - 6 - one good shot, but a quiet game!
Cole - 6 - not too tragic, but ran into trouble on a number of occasions - blind alleys!
Rooney - 6 - the feed he was getting was so poor he resorted to dropping deeper as the game went on!
Owen - 1 - fcuk me with a pineapple if Bruno or Crouch couldn't have done better than that wankstain :(
Subs - other than Ledley (OK), who makes JT look more comfortable, Defoe is out of sorts and Dyer wasn't as effective as he was against the Micks!

Over all I have to say the team played well today with the amount of goal posts that they hit it could have easily been a much higher score. Becks really impressed me today, true he did have an awful lot of crosses that he over hit, but for the most part this had to be one of the best games I have seen him play in a while.
My one complaint with the team was Joe Cole...I know I will take some flack for criticizing him but over all his playing style doesn't seem to fit the teams dynamic. England's strength lies in its passing and ability to find the open man, but J. Cole's first instinct is to try and run straight at the defense and hope he can get through on his own. That is why it seemed like A. Cole had such a quiet game, everytime he would pass to Joe and make a run down the line to create space, and instead of Joe using him he would just run at the 3 defenders in front of him. On the other side Gary Neville would make the same runs and for the most part he would get the ball and it would allow Becks to get into a better position with more space to create.
So in conclusion Applause for Becks and Stevie G... and eff Joe Cole.

As I said before Beckham saw too much of the ball for someone who was doing absolutely nothing with it. His constant roaming over the pitch must have really got on the tits of his team mates. It smacks of a desperate attempt to get everyone to play everything through him in order to 'show his importance'. He seemed to feel the need to be the central figure in the England team, which he is not. He wanted to look like he was taking the game by the scruff of the neck a la Greece but in the end only suceeded in wringing it.
