Me and my mate have been arguing over who is the better player, Beckham or Gerrard? I think Gerrard is much better than Becks and I wanted to get the public opinion.

Current form definitely Gerrard by a mile but a younger Beckham was pretty good too and maybe as good as Steven Gerrard right now..kinda.
A better question would be who is better, Gerrard? or Lampard?

Old school Beckham was better. But Becks as of Madrid until now, no. As of current form Gerrard is much better. But if Beckham can regain his old form, then i can see him leading England once again in Germany next year. But I only think this will happen if he returns to England. Spain has completely messed him personally and his game up. We need to get back to good times.

I think the issue regards what they both bring to the team. On a good day, Beckham's crossing, corners and free-kicks are vitally precise. Gerrard can long pass, just like Beckham can, but is a good tackler with a superb shot on the one. Beckham normally has to control the ball first.
To be honest, Lampard is too similar to Gerrard. I think if I had to get rid of one, it would be Gerrard, simply because no one can bend it like .....

The question makes it sound straight forward, when it's not.
Beckham on form is better at crossing, freekicks and long passes. Gerrard is better at tackling, driving forward with the ball and getting more out of team mates. Beckham is hideously out of form, and Gerrard is starting to blow a bit hot and cold.
At this moment in time, any top club in Europe offererd Gerrard or Beckham would take Gerrard everytime.
On a side note. I think Lampard is a fantastic player who's passin is amazing (the pass for Duff at Barce) but Gerrard can do everything that Lampard can do plus better tackling and running with the ball. Gerrard edges it.
I fear that pretty soon a Gerrard-Makele-Lampard axis will demolish all-comers. :(

This is sorta like comparing apples and oranges. Both play different roles for England. However, as a CM as Real Madrid often plays him, Becks is crap and Gerrard is much better. However when both are playing their natural positions, Becks as RM and Gerrard as CM, they are both top class and deserve to be in the England starting XI.

gerrard. beckham is quality but doesnt seem as good as he was at man u. beckham is better at free kicks and crossing, gerrard is better at everything else

depends...beckham can play the right..gerrard is more in the middle...
beckham does have some awesome crosses, long passes and some slick ass corners...forgot to mention his patented free kick
edit: beckham is my idol...so there is no bias here...but i hate lampard...

Gerrard for me is better than Beckham but Beckham at his best is pretty good you know but for me Gerrard just keeps improving.

Does it really matter who is better? In the grand scheme of things they are players who for the most part, fulfill their roles on the pitch.

Put Becks in his old great shape, and without a doubt he is the best player!!! It's difficult to compare them right now when they are not at a the same level, but Becks still ocasionally reminds everyone the great player he is like in England's latest game.
In overall, considering all Beckham's carrier, he has done much more and much better than Gerrard. Or hasn't he? ;)

Lampard and Gerrard don't exactly pair well in midfield together, if Gerrard was asked to play more of the role he does for Liverpool when he plays for England then Gerrard will play a lot better.
