Hi all,

here's one for all you historians out there then.

Who wore the number 15 jersey for Romania in the 1970 world cup held in Mexico?

I am asking as my grandfather was given this jersey by the player as he was staying in their hotel at the time. This was passed down to his son (my dad) and we have just uncovered it in the attic but cannot remember the players name.

Any help would be appreciated.

Dave.

Was your grandfather a fan of Romania or was Dumitru just being generous?

Mircea Lucescu, ex-Besiktas, now Shakhtar Donetsk coach was the captain of Romania.

Are you selling it?

What do you mean? I don't have the shirt.

What mean by this quote is tell us more about the story involving the shirt. Sounds interesting. Just in case somebody misinterprets the quote like what Emelectric15 did.

Hi Guys,

I don't know the exact story as my grandfather passed away some years back but as far as we know my grandfather was in mexico to watch England and he happened to stay in the same hotel as the romanian team, I don't know the exact reason for the gift except he was given it as the team were leaving following their exit from the tounament. I can only guess he befrended the players during his stay.

Thanks for the info this was exactly what we were looking for.

Regards,

Dave.

I like that story. You don't hear many stories about a fan's friendship between a soccer team. Not only that, this was story set in Mexico when possibly the greatest World Cup was being played and when it's the greatest World Cup, anyone who loves soccer would want to be a part of it.
