Looks like Portugal is leading 3-0 :( it's the 80th minute, Goals by Fernandes, Pauleta and Postiga.

I know a win is not expected, but I'd like to see at least a goal.

Yeah, good to see that we at least got on the scoreboard :)

I wonder where McKenna played, as he did score a goal... wonder if he played up front? I can easily seeing it being a header, kind of like his goal vs Germany.

any information on formations and match analysis would be great.

Saw the game in a sports bar in Toronto. Canada played well about 95% of the time, but nearly every mistake they made ended up in the back of the net. We seem to be capable of maintaining possession against good teams in their home park now, but have a habit of spoiling it by giving up cheap goals. 3 of the 4 were easily preventable and the last one in 2nd half injury time annoyed me as it made the scoreline somewhat flattering for Portugal after Canada had given it a good effort through the whole game.

Still, I'd rather we lose by this scoreline by going out on the attack the whole match rather than losing 5-0 in a bunker defense, which has happened before. The team fielded was mostly young & continuing to build for the future, so they aren't going to learn anything by bunkering for the whole match.

I didn't get to see the game so I won't be able to comment.

Hopefully there will be a torrent of the game available soon. :)

Is this the best Canadian soccer has to hope for , that we get on the scoreboard? Canadian soccer needs a quick and hard kick in the a$$, from the CSA,to the manager on down, Canadian soccer is the laughing stock right now, we're the butts of jokes, im sure this isn't what the CSA had in mind when they hired the current manager, or is it?

CdnBhoy....

Seems a little harsh to comment on a game that you haven't even seen yet. Get back to me when you have downloaded the torrent. :)

Playing away to a team -75- places ahead of us in the ranking charts? this was a fine result. not a good one, but certenly acceptable.

every player on the portuguese team plays on a strong team, and for many players, the biggest teams in the world. more then half of the Canadian players play on lower/lesser league teams.

Canadian soccer is the laughing stock right now

bulshit. go to the portugal forum, they praised the Canadian players (De Guzman, De Rosario in particular).

For the second (3rd, 4th) time, RELAX.

You guys are making strides, with more young players like Jaime Peters and Will Johnson and great talents like Julian De Guzman and De Rosario you're going places. I say WC 2010 you'll be there. Growth takes time. I hope you get an MLS team as I think that would help alot.

It's pretty much agreed upon that the future of Canada's nat'l team for the next 8-10 years will be dependant on the following core nucleus of players:

Julian De Guzman, 23 (Hannover 96 ---> Deportivo La Coruna)
Iain Hume, 21 (Tranmere Rovers)
Atiba Hutchinson, 21 (Helsingborg)
Jaime Peters, 17 (Ipswich Town)
Mike Klukowski, 23 (Club Brugge)
Josh Simpson, 21 (Millwall)

Others that could be big influences in the future also include Tam Nsaliwa (22, 1.FC Saarbrucken), Olivier Occean (23, Odd Grenland), Maycoll Canizalez (23, Werder Bremen), David Edgar (17, Newcastle United), and so on, but I think the 6 I named above will be the first names on the game sheet every time out (barring injuries, of course).

You could even add Jonathan De Guzman (17, Feyenoord) to that list if he a) pans out as his talent dictates; and b) actually decides to play alongside his brother for Canada.

Not just to boost the Alberta content, I would add Asmir Begovic to that list along with Nik Ledgerwood, who has been captain at all levels of his national team play for Canada. Ryan Gyaki bears watching as well.

if canada won against portugal then it will get more people interested in soccer in canada. a mass to an audience where futbal does shine only the world cup and euros.we have great players and our outlook on futbal is fine.
the only problem is not enough interest and funding. really their going to build a new stadium but is the new toronto franchise going to have lot of support nope! the world juniors will sellout quickly cause the rising young talent that is being progressed right now.

The Toronto MLS franchise will be a success cause there are soccer fans waiting for pro soccer to return to the city after the Blizzard in the CSL.
Canada had no chance of beating Portugal, really we have no right playing
these bigger countries when we cant even handle Concacaf opponents.
The 2007 U-20 tournament is just a big cash grab for the CSA, will it help
our national team program?....................maybe. :(
