It sounds as though SGE has tipped Joe Cole to start at left wing on Saturday vs. Northern Ireland.

Cole's form has been really good recently, but is he the answer to England's left wing problem? What happended to Downing?
I think Downing needs to be in the starting line-up now and start developing a relationship with Lamps, Gerrard, and Becks. Come on Sven, put Stewy in! :)

Stewart Downing is more of a future prospect at the moment, but hopefully he will have made the position his own by next summer. In the mean time Cole on his current form deserves at least some place in the England team, though I don't think he is the long term answer for the left wing slot.

id rather see Joe cole on the left over downing....stewie needs experience before he can run out and play 90 minutes on the senior squad........

COLE CLAIMS CAP!

Well he caused so many problems for Barca and now it looks like England have a TOP QUALITY left winger that can do wonders with the ball and knows where the net is!

Just got to control his gob and support AC a little better and work on his tackling.

That's exactly right also if your a defence it's going to scare you to death that in Gerrard and Lampard you have two players who can bomb from deep.

Must tell you a story ......

Went away for the weekend with er indoors, spent 1 night in one of the Birmingham hotels and while having dinner in the evening I noticed lots of people walking past the dinning area wearing track-suits. Thought nothing of it.

Got up in the morning, went down for breakfast and low and behold the CHELSEA boys. This was when J-L V was the Gaffa.

Anyway one of the last for dreakfast wat JC with his tie all crook, top button undone, wearing his suit (DARK) with white bloody trainers on!

I think he has a point to make and by doing this it will also cement his claim on his starting place at Chelsea.

Why would Downing play right midfield or central midfield? when he is a left footed player. Joe Cole will be the one that takes Lampard's position.
