View Full Version : [SQR] So much MLS coverage on TV...
Goodsport
25 Mar 2005, 10:49 AM
... and not just the games themselves that'll be televised on ABC, espn2, FOX Soccer Channel, FOX Sports en Espaņol, HDNet and various local/regional channels (most of which will be shown nationally via the MLS Direct Kick Package).
There are also:
FOX Soccer Channel
MLS Preview Show: (1 hour) Weekly show debuts on Friday, 4/1 at 5pm PT, repeats later that day and throughout the week. Includes previews, highlights and interviews.
MLS Wrap: (1/2 hour) Weekly show returns on Saturday, 4/2 at 9pm PT, repeats throughout the week. Features highlights of the week's MLS games.
FOX Football Friday: (1 hour) Weekly show first airs at 6pm PT, then repeats throughout the week. The show doesn't cover MLS specifically, but MLS news is oftentimes discussed.
FOX Soccer USA: (1/2 hour) Weekly show reportedly will cover the semi-pro, amatuer and college soccer scene in this country, though it may or may not mention MLS as well. Debuts sometime this month.
GolTV
American Soccer: (1/2 hour) Weekly show airs Mondays at 4:30pm PT and repeats later that day. While the show doesn't only cover MLS, the league (along with U.S. National Team news) generally provides the bulk of episode's content.
The Soccer Files: (1/2 hour) Weekly show airs Thursdays at 4:30pm PT and repeats later that day. Phil Schoen, Lindsey Dean and Ray Hudson discuss the week's soccer issues. Though not the show's sole content, MLS and U.S. National Team are heavily discussed.
Who could've foreseen this much U.S. soccer TV coverage ten years ago? Heck, who could've foreseen this much MLS TV coverage 4-5 years ago?

Why are they doing that? Will the new season begin after the MLS season is over?

Nice list. Don't forget GolTv News. It's on twice a day (2nd show is updated). It's mostly international news, but does feature some MLS and National team news.
I also noticed that GolTV is a major sponser of the new soccer magazine Striker. Hope it succeeds, can't get enough of those centerfold spreads of Beckman! ; )
Oh wait that was Vanity Fair.

I'd like to see an American-produced FSC News.
I get so fricking sick of major US National team news being buried under Sunderland's transfer details. Anyone FSC viewer who's that much of an Anglophile could still watch Sky Sports News, Fox Football Friday and FSC's oversaturation of EPL game coverage.
The imbalance undermines FSC's own programming.
How much could it cost to produce that news program anyway?

Judging by the lighting on that show, next to nothing. The only significant cost going to some person playing that horrible theme song every 5 minutes.

Did they say it is coming back eventually, ie we know it's not a complete cancellation? They do really focus on EPL, so it wouldn't suprise me that much if their season length matches that of EPL.

I'm guessing FFF will be back in August when the EPL kicks off again.

I would assume it will be back in the summer because they are building a new studio and everything, probably around the Champions World tour or so.....

As for the games, does anyone know when FSC is going to announce their lineup? I emailed them a few days ago but haven't gotten a response. :(

Really Goodsie? Those two are being replaced? Maybe Johnny Moore will take over Wheelock's place. Hmmmm. Just as long as it's not Maximilian Bretos or Christian Miles. Those two are all over Sox Foccer Channel as it is now.
