I'm getting popups in firefox, and I don't think it's spyware/whatever-ware related, as I've run the checking programs numerous times.

Any ideas??

And yes, the option for block popup windows is checked.

It's been happening for about a month or so on Safari as well. It seems they've found a way to get around pop up blockers. At this point, unless the Firefox people come up with a solution, you just have to deal with it.

They released version 1.0.2 this week, but they haven't addressed the pop up issue, it looks like: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/releases/1.0.2.html

This bugs me somewhat - it's one thing to send pop ups to unprotected browsers, but it's whole another to send popups to people who are annoyed enough to actively take action to disable them. Pissing people off isn't a great way to advertise your products, is it?

Yeah, I got that 1.0.2 for firefox and thunderbird.

Everything else you said, I agree with. If people say "don't popup me", and you do, it's almost akin to saying "do not call this number" and still being telemarketed during dinner.

I too have been getting popups in Firefox. The same one's over and over.

I have a small red circle with a white arrow in the upper right hand corner of my Firefox browser. When I put the mouse over it it reads:

Critical Updates Available

I was afraid to click on it thinking that the same people who were sending me popups somehow put that there to get me to click on it and do who knows what to my computer.

Now I assume it is just Firefox informing me that version 1.0.2 is available as skipshady has pointed out.

So it is safe to click the damn thing?

more spyware is getting through .Nowhere near as much as I.E ,but when I run ad-aware I see more spyware than before.
I guess hackers have started to focus more on firefox now.

Yeah, it's safe. Of course, www.getfirefox.com will work as well. Another (and probably the only other) thing I don't like about FF is that despite the fact that I upgrade to the same directory, why does it put 1.0, 1.0.1, and 1.0.2 as seperate programs in my add/remove programs??

Is it safe to remove 1.0 and 1.0.1 without removing 1.0.2??? Since they're all listed as 3 different programs, i'd think by removing the 2 earlier versions, I could free up some space...

Spyware shouldn't get through unless you download stuff.

I'm still running ad-aware and spybot on a regular basis and not finding much of anything (besides tracking cookies.)

Don't do it!

There is only one copy of firefox.exe. It gets removed if you "remove" an earlier version. :(

Not done and not done. :D

That sucks though that they can't put "firefox" as one entry in that box though.

This proves how great IE has been doing. A little attention from hackers sends Firefox to graveyard. At least we had fun. What a cheap trash. Microsoft rulz after all.

I was referring to tracking cookies .About a month ago none of these cookies were getting through but now I get about 5 or 6 per browsing session .
Sure it aint much but its something to think about.

as for the dude who says I.E rules..
I disagree with ya..
I.E is plagued with browser crashes ,slower speeds ,more spyware ,etc...

You can remove uninstall options from the Tools section of Spybot S&D.

Bill Gates? What's up? Hey, you got that ten bucks you owe me from that poker night in Seattle with Matt Damon?

Seriously, the amount of spyware I have with Firefox is zero. The minute I do anything with IE, I get flooded. Web deveopers found a way to drop pop-ups in with flash, so Firefox people came up with a solution after a day of being asked. If Microsoft could ever get that kind of customer response, then they'd be onto something.

I think, recently I've gotten around 5 or 6 popups over the last week using Firefox, during that same period I've gotten around 20 from IE when I used it...sporadically. This is something that I'm sure FF will have fixed in the not to distant future, so I'm not worried. As far as spyware and adware goes...none.

All the tracking cookies I was getting have been cut off simply by changing an option on Ad-aware.
I recommend ad-aware SE plus to work alongside mozilla.

I downloaded firefox 1.0.3 last night and hopefully it'll do something about these new breed of popups.
