Thought I'd direct everyone's attention to a new ht-resource for hte USA. FryDog and stevetrash, two D.II managers, have cooked up a new rating system that attempts to quantify a manager's skill, independent of his or her team's overall talent. They call this the wussy rating
http://www.wussystats.info/
The rating looks at games where you lost or tied, despite having higher hatstats ratings, and gives you a numerical wussy rating that depends on number of wussy occurances, average goal differential, and average % difference in hatstats ratings (i.e. if I lost 2-1 to a team with HT-ratings of 200 and my ratings were 300, my GD would be 1 and my % difference would be .66).
The formula is:
Occ - The number of times the team was a wussy/stud
AvgM - The average margin of the wussy team's hatstats rating being superior
AvgGD - Average Goal Difference
WR - Wussiness Rating (higher the rating, the wussier the team is)
SR - Studliness Rating (higher the rating, the studlier the team is)
WR Equation: 1+(((AvgM*100)-(AvgGD*10))*Occ)/100
SR Equation: 1+(((-AvgM*100)+(AvgGD*10))*Occ)/100
As you can see, there are also corresponding "stud" ratings, and the two ratings can be combined in different ways to come up with an overall "manager" rating.
These ratings, of course, aren't a perfect measure of manager ability, becasue there's a lot of luck that goes in to the ratings too, as well as some bias becasue of the reliance on hatstats ratings. Did I beat Evil Runtites in week 6 becasue I'm a better manager with my team selection and use of the AOW tactic, becasue I was lucky to get a corner kick chance fopr the winning goal, or beacuse defense trainers may have hatstats ratings that are disproportionately high?
Anyway, as far as I can tell, the Big Soccer Manager with the higest "wussy" rating is Craig_P's Brays Bayou FC, with a wussy rating of 1.569. I knew I supported you for a reason! ;)
