I waited all week to watch this match vs Honduras and I pursuaded some none soccer fans to come and hang at the pad and join me. Luckily I had my two televisions going with one tv on USA vs Honduras and the other on Juventus vs Reggiana. The whole time my American basketball friends where watching the Juventus match (these guys are not Eurosnobs-to be honest they don't really like soccer). They basically told me that the US match looked like a high school basketball game compared to a NBA game for Juventus. The bottom line is the US game was boring as hell.

Juventus is as good a team as you will see - they might win the European Cup. Top teams like Juve and Real Madrid are stronger and better than any National teams, even top ranked ones.....

The game looked as if it was on slow motion. The grass was high as well, so that didn't help. Finally, the crowd was dead. Can someone please tell Americans it's OK to make noise!!!!!!!!!!! I've been to churches louder than some of these USA home games.

Albuqueque is Albuqueque! Whats interesting is that the 9,300 crowd was way smaller than what USA womens team drew in the same venue - 16,000+

In fact in most "American" cities the crowd is mostly for the visitors and not the Gringos.....

So, you are comparing an inconsequential friendly against a meaningful club match?
How exciting were some of the WorldChampion Tour friendlies of last year here in the US?

Someone card this sorry bastard for trolling.

Or at least lock him from the forum.

This is either a thinly veiled attempt at a windup, or a completely asanine comment from somebody who thinks most US fans would actually care his thoughts on this comparison.

The USMNT B team played the Honduras B team in a menainless friendly

The Juventus A team played the Reggina A team in an important competition

And as for the USWNT outdrawing the USMNT in Alborquirke..... move New Mexico!

If you ask the players on the US team - would they say the game was "meaningless"? The answer is NO - all of them are playing for places. Same for Honduras. The fact is that the quality of the players at Juve and AC Milan is such that they would beat any national team so the skill quality of the game would be higher, as it will also be for USA v Mexico and USA v Guatemala. But that doesnt diminish the importance of the result of the USA games does it?

The game may have been important to the players on the field, but it still remains that it was our B team, and as such, one should expect a lower level of play than when the A teams of the USMNT and Mexico hook up for their royal rumble.

And AC and Juve are paying their players mega $$, and as such will attract the best players from around the world, not just players from within the country that AC and Juve are from.

Although the tone has a semi trolling aspect to it :) .... I find it interesting that people in the US defense are pointing out how it was a preparation game were not the best were involved (B team, merely a friendly, etc...).... And yet in the analysis forums we are making such a big deal of how some of our players have performed, as if what they showed vs. frigging Honduras gives them a right to automatically be considered to the qualifying roster vs. Mexico or something.... Pretty interesting from that regard IMO.... But yeah, there is certainly trolling involved

Some players did very well in the Honduras game, probably the best they have ever played.... but that's a seperate issue from joining the team that will slay the mighty Tacos of mexico.....

After the first Panama game, someone on these boards asutely characterized the USMNT as the Germany of CONCACAF. Exciting play and blowouts not required, just an inevitable victory.

I can relate to this. I have only been watching soccer for about 6 months and I was eager to watch the US-Honduras game. Well, we were staying the weekend at the in-laws for the obligatory family visit and I succesfully hijacked the TV. I discovered that they have GolTV (which I do not).

Well, it wasn't long before I was watching the Juve game more than the US game. The US game just didn't "feel" like it meant anything. It wasn't what I would call "intense" and alot of that had to do with the crowd - but some of it was the level of play as well.

You can call Beppe out for trolling, but he's not off base on this.

That's because it's so ********ing obvious. Why didn't he just start a thread that said the sky was blue. It's like watching an American highschool JV basketball game on one TV and then on the other the European basketball final and saying the European game was better.

AAARG!! The New Mexico beef expo was going on. How was mens soccer supposed to compete with that? ;-)

yeah, it was a boring game. This isn't news.

Invite them back for the Mexico match this weekend. I'm sure it will be more intense.

I must say this is quite an interesting tactic: You seem to be "defending" American soccer by implying the play of the US team (whether B or C teams, does not matter) resembled a high school level match... Gee, i'd like to see those who believe we ought to go MLS heavy vs. Mexico comment on this......

So? What's your point?

Did you happen to watch the England-Holland friendly a whie back? Now THAT was boring.

Juventus would look like crap playing at altitude, too.

When I saw Mexico playing hideously ugly ball in the Denver '03 friendly, on that awful field, I had my epiphany. Nobody -- and I do mean nobody -- looks good if the field conditions are sufficiently bad and the opposition is sufficiently good.

Your friends need to understand the game of soccer better.
