There seems to be a very vocal segment here which is constantly advocating us trading Noonan, usually for hypothetical defensive help. I cannot understand this. The guy has been extremely effective for us, and clearly is progressing more and more as a player. Today's performance for the Nats is a great example of what he brings to the table. I would put him clearly on the same level as Twellman, and, because this is a "what have you done for me lately" kind of league, I'd say he's maybe even more valuable. Yet, you never see any "let's trade twellman talk". So what's up people? Need I remind you how Twellman's last cap ended?

Well, I'm with you on this. I think Twellman and Noonan are very similar players that don't compliment each other particularly well and that the team might, again "might", be upgraded if one was traded for a player of equivalent skill at a different position. I think the problem is that Noonan is a more versatile forward (and probably a better team player) and Twellman is, at least in 2003, the better finisher. Although the end result, team goals scored, is probably a wash with either player on the field, if you had to depend on one player to take a chance with the game on the line most people would want the ball to fall to Twellman. The guy who puts the ball in the net is usually the more popular player.

But Noonan does put the ball in the back of the net.
The reason why he's not as popular because he doesn't work harder then Twellman. He's slower then Twellman, and he has no kiddie groupies (well not as much as Twellman).
But, he is our scoring champ, as well as league scoring champ. Twellman was a scoring champ. If both can sync up and be on the same page, then the Revs will have the most dominant forward duo in the league.

I agree with you that we have two very forwards, and that they both have had there run of success in the past. What i see is that both of there success have come at times when they wheren't playing together. Twellman was scoring champ in '02 when Noonan was still in college, and Noonan was scoring champ last year when Twellman was out for most of the season.
We need to find away to get these guys to work together and combine there possable strengths to create a super duo of strikers. And if there performances with the USMNT is any hint, then i would say that they are learning and feeling each other out.
I know that Injuries seam to be the scape goat around here, but this coming season, we need to pray for less injuries. If Twellman and Noonan can consistently play together then we will see them combine and work better together, and show the league that we do have the most power up front.
And as for all this talk about trading Noonan, I think its just the dumbest thing i have heard. He's still young, still has many years left i him, and I can only see him get better (not to hes not good right now).

OK, let's take the idea that Noonan and Twellman don't complement each other well. That has also been thrown around considerably on the boards. What I remember, not having stats right in front of me, is that in Noonan's rookie year, he assisted on several of Twellman's goals, often when he was coming in as a sub before he cemented his place in the lineup. I'm sure somebody has already done this, but i'd love to see the stats for when they play together vs. only one being on the field. I'm just not sure that I buy into them not working together well. 2 years ago all we heard was how they had played together since young and had great understanding.

I am sure the Crew would be happy to take him off your hands...we'll give you Martino :)
Noonan looked really good yesterday against Honduras for the US squad. He was constantly taking on defenders one-v-one and then beating them to get free inside the box. He was unlucky to have not scored or at least gotten an assist on the afternoon.
