I just bought a sony dru-720a but I have been having problems burning dvd's with it.

I bought some cheap DVD-Rs (manufacturer is called Great Quality) and I tried to burn a 6GB dvd to it.

Every time I try to use the default compression options with NERO to compress and burn the DVD, the newly burnt dvd seems to pause intermittently upon playback

I wonder if it is because of bad media or if I need to get a new dvd burner. Has anyone else had this problem?

I upgraded the firmware and installed some aspi drivers but no luck :(

OK, I'll buy one blank dvd-r and burn again. Can someone recommend a great DVD-R media manufacturer? Memorex, fujitsu, who?

maxel, sony, memorex in that order

edit to add that you might try compressing the DVD before burning (DVD Shrink or something similar) so that it doesn't add undue strain on your processor/memory while burning. If you can build perfect ISO's or VOB'd before you burn, nero will just fly.
