baskerball sucks nfl sucks and soccer is nowhere to be seen in the tele. something is wrong here! No soccer on TV? You might want to put away the rabbit ears and get cable/satellite. Here in little ol NB I get
TV 5 - France
TLN - Italy/Spain
Sportsnet - EPL
TSN - Champion's League
Fox Sports World Canada which shows so much soccer they are changing the name to Fox Soccer World or something like that.

But at least you have a pro league, semi pro, good collage/university soccer, while we have no organization from the governing body of the sport in this country, no league, poor manager. So we have more on tv,big deal that really won't help the sport grow in this country. We need a miracle.

you can promote soccer in canada all you want, but it'd be like promoting basketball in england.

Or ice hcokey.....Soccer in Canada has seem to run it's course, it has failed benefit from the one and only world cup appearence, the concacaf gold cup win, the success of the youth teams, so it is on lifesupport just waiting for someone to finally to come along and pull the plug. yes there will always be football fans in the country, just not enough to make Canada a success. :(

Actualy, there's an Englishman in the NBA. Basketball is popular amongst Black People in England.

No luck against Poland the other night there. Holding on for the point would have been a good way to bounce back after the England game. Hockey's quite big these days in your part of the world isn't it with the Belfast Giants?

Soccer is huge in participation terms in Canada and is now bigger than both baseball and hockey. A lot of first and second generation still watch games from Europe every week. Give them a genuinely pro product and the sport will succeed in markets like Toronto, Vanacouver and Montreal.

I feel that there's no Media in Canada that criticizes the CSA into becoming better. There's barely any public pressure in Canada as there was here in the U.S.

Someone in Canada has to rock the CSA to the core to get them functioning right and making a better Men's National Team. Once you do that, you'll begin to see a chain reaction of attracting new supporters.

However, I don't feel that an MLS team will do it in Canada. It's gotta start with the National Team. Give the Public some National Pride with Soccer and you'll be on the right track.

I would agree with that. Many Canadian newspapers will uncritically reproduce any press release that is provided to them where a major soccer story is concerned. An active Bigsoccer board would probably be a good substitute to help point some of the journalists like Neil Davidson and Ben Knight in the right direction sometimes. The Voyageurs board is like Sam's Army. A bit too close to the national federation as an active supporters group for the CMNT to rock the board to the extent that it sometimes needs to be rocked.

All the Csa has to do is select better managers instead of the mediocre one they have now, fire him and that would be a rebuilding job. A MLS francise would help the sport grow in Toronto. Forget Montreal and Vancouver as other have stated they don;t support the teams the have or had.
Vancouver (BC Lions poor support, Ravens folded due to lack of support. Montreal Expos no fans what so ever, the original CFL folded became the concordes, folded again.
Great sports markets. :(

I guess all pretense of you not being FC Beast/Cdn Bhoy has gone out the window.

Vancouver and Montreal have put Toronto soccer support to shame in recent years. This despite the fact that Toronto is a 'greater sports town' (I'm paraphrasing).

On the other hand, the two USL franchises in Van and Montreal are run way better than the Lynx, and I think a reputable sports entity such as MLSE can do a great job here in Toronto.

But that still doesn't take away from the fact that right now Vancouver and Montreal support soccer better than Toronto.

It depends what yardstick you use. Who got the Championsworld games and filled the Skydome last summer? Would be interesting to see the media market in Canada that provides the best TV ratings for the various pro soccer broadcasts.

That would be why it has an all sports format radio station would it? It's still not that long ago in historical terms that the Jays and Argos were amongst the best supported teams in their leagues.

As a US Soccer Fan, I would love to see Canada become a much better team because it will better CONCACAF by improving our image and offering more Top Class Soccer matches in this region. Plus, I'd love to see a renewed US & Canada rivalry like we have in International Hockey. ;)

Have you ever gone to a LYNX match? I have the product on the field is down right terrible, only made the playoffs once in their years in the A-league, when they were at Varsity their stadium staff let kids run all over the stadium, bothering what spectators they did have. Until the LNNX decide to become totally professional in what they do, don't be schocked that no one attends their games. The Jays , who cares. Argos again who cares.
