Which teams will have the biggest turnover between 2002/2006?

Which of the 2002 teams will look significantly difference in terms of personnel come 2006?

Portugal - the "golden generation" will all be in their 30's, and they have a fair few good players coming through. (Viana, Quaresma)

What about France? Many of their players will be in their early 30s in 2006, and they have a crop of young 20-ish players.

France certainly have a lot of talented youngsters, but it is mainly in the defence that you will see changes. (I'm thinking the likes of Desailly, Thuram and Lizarazu most likely won't be there) Henry and Trezeguet will still be under 30 (I think), and other than Cisse I can't think of any top quality strikers they have coming through. Zidane is the sort of player that is not going to be greatly affected by age, so he will probably still be strong at 34, so I can't see the midfield changing greatly.

That said, you never know who will come from nowhere in the next 4 years.

Suarez has allready been replaced by Marquez. Finding another Blanco however will be hard to come by. I am confident that a new player can just appear out of nowhere similiar to Luis Hernandez in 98..

Right now we have Adolfo Bautista (Morelia) who has similiar qualities to Blanco. There is also Torrado and Melvin Brown. One of the players that just debuted recently, (I dont even know his name) plays for Toluca a tall forward #28 has qualitys like the Paraguayo Cardozo. If you watch the pre pre libertadores games on FSWE he scored a wicked scissors kick goal in the loss to Pumas (4-3) He can be a player to look out for.

Looks like Nigerias Golden generation has also come to an end. Senegal will most likely take their place as CAF's Best.

I agree..........portugalwillchange from 30 year olds to mid twentie skilled players........probely better then our SO-CALLED golden generation(thatwas euro 2000)

I would say France will have some changes. They have the likes of Marlet, Cheyrou, Le Tallec, Sinama-Pongolle, Cisse, Gallas and Robert coming through. Up front, Henry will be in his prime, at 28, and Trezeguet close behind at 26.

England are a very young side, so changes there are not all too likely. Seaman will be gone, of course, as will the likes of Southgate. Campbell will be 32 I think, but as a central defender that is not really a problem. Gerrard, Owen, Hargreaves, Heskey, Beckham, Scholes, Ferdinand, Dyer, Cole, Neville, Bridge - all that lot will still be around. You would probably change no more than 5 or six players from the 2002 World Cup squad.

I have watched Spain in the Euro qualifiers. Many of them are not in the present world cup team. Agree with you.

I also feel that my Selecao will be in for a huge turnover!! Remember that out of it's WC winning 23 ONLY SIX was at WC'98!! And ONLY SEVEN of 22 that went to WC'98 was part of the Tetra-winning crew of WC'94!!

The US will have a large turnover as well.


Reyna, Agoos, McBride, Stewart, Regis, Moore, Jones, Keller, Friedel, and Pope will all be well over 30. Pope, and maybe the keepers will probably be the only players out of that group left.
