As a football fan, I'd say 1-0 Mexico.
As a die hard USMNT fan, I'd say 4-2 to the U.S.

When the Hex schedule came out, I thought this was one game we would lose (and could afford to).
However, after seeing our form & results this year, I'm confident that we can end that losing streak in Mexico. I'll be "satisfied" with a 1-1 draw but hope we will go for the 3 points. My starting line-up:
------------------------------Keller---------------------------
Cherundolo----------Pope--------------Bocanegra--------Gibbs
----------------------------Mastroeni-------------------------
--Reyna---------------------------------------------Beasley--
-----------------------------Donovan-------------------------
--------------Johnson-----------------------McBride----------
Subs: if ahead or tied, Zavagnin, Dempsey & Berhalter. If behind, Mathis, Ching & Lewis.
Pope might not be able to go, from what I've read, which means that Berhalter should get the start. I'd feel better, though if Pope is ready.

One thing is for certian..Pablo will start. He has been probably one of the most consitiant players on the nats over the last 6 months and has a history of big games against Mexico.
If he was in better form, (didn't look so hot in the CCC), I would like to see Wolff against Mexico as well. He also has always had big games gainst El Tri.
Mc Head also seems to show up for this rivalry so.
I expect a tough physical match and once again I expect Arena to best La Volpe.
2-0 USA

this game is do or die for Lavolpe. Mexico plays lazy and unmotivated for the most part in friendlies, but play hard and with huevos in games that matter. i think Mexico will take this game 2-0. here's the lineup i hope to see:
--------------------------------Sanchez-------------------------------------
--Carmona---------------Osorio---------------Sanchez--------------Salcido--
---------------------------------Marquez------------------------------------
----------Zinha-----------------------------------------Lozano--------------
----------------------------------Blanco-------------------------------------
------------------Fonseca------------------------Medina--------------------

I'd say 4-2 to the U.S.
no screw-ups, please!
Thats the biggest screw up EVAR.
Mexico will take this 2-0 or 3-0.
US might score a goal. I say the US better bunker hard. This aint no Dallas 2004 team that you beat last year.
Rafa Marquez got a red card Saturday on 53 minute for Barca so he got some extra rest.
Lozano scored a sweet goal yesterday vs America, so he seems hyped and ready to go.
Cuau played great yesterday as well.
Shoot even borgetti scored 3 goals over the weekend.

Funny, I was going to say the same thing about the U.S. We'll actually have our European players this time around...
The U.S. goes into this game fairly relaxed because nobody (except maybe the team) expects results. They'll keep things slow and try to keep the crowd out of it, and score to go up 1-0 at the half. Mexico will mount a furious rally and dominate the 2nd half, getting a late equalizer and both teams escape with a point.
Just my thoughts...

Seriously guys, this game is in Azteca. Mexico have NEVER lost to us in Azteca (they've never lost to ANYONE other than Costa Rica in Azteca... and we all saw how the pay-back went for that last month...). No way we get any points from this match, let's just get ready for Guatemala. :/
I mean, if this game is played ANYWHERE else in the world, we'd win no problem, but it's not anywhere else. So we're just going to have to wait and whoop Mexico when they come up to Columbus (and get away from that fortress) later this year.

A few thoughts:
I see Bruce playing a mostly MLS squad. He has had them in altitude training for the last month.
The pressure will be on Mexico to win this game. This is a double edged sword. Mexico could come out focused or the could wilt under the pressure.
I don't know much about the Mexico team, other than Marquez. He is the best defender in Concacaf. It will be interesting to see how Eddie Johnson performs agains the Mexican defense.
Hopefully this match will be exciting. Both countries, although neither side wants to admit, need each other. The best preparation for a good World Cup run is playing stressful matches.
Let's hope nobody gets injured and that no projectiles are thrown from the stands. I hope we can all put a little class in this classico.

My thoughts are that Mexico will come out very strong in the first 20 minutes or so. Trying to get a goal or two real fast just like they did last game. If they do then they will try to cruise for the rest of the game and try to counter attack when we turn the pressure on to try and score. But if Mexico fails to score in the first half then I think the crowd will start to turn on them and then they really will feel the pressure to score which will result in a goal for us in a counter attack.
Just my thoughts.

you speak as if this streak of theirs will never end. 1 to nil US. the game will be tightly contested and more than likely physical. The MLS boys are no slouches themselves.

And you wouldn't call Columbus in the middle of Winter a fortress as well?
Mexico City has 500 years of history and is the heart and soul of Mexico, gaining a conditioning edge is the not the reason why Mexico plays there in qualifiers, so no excuses USNT

did you see the last goal he scored?! it was fu<king beautiful. if this guy does start against Gringolandia and plays as well as he did against Atlas, this guy will make me eat my words. but it'll be a good thing though :D

The only thing intimidating about this game is the atmosphere. If the US players stay focused and don't get intimidated by the crowd, they will win. They are better than Mexico.

I saw it and it was really good, but lets not forget that the US is not Atlas..the US is much better defensivly that them and Borgetti won't get the time and space he gets with Santos agaisnt MFL opposition.

Should be a great game. MLSer's have been training at altitude, so we'll see a few more of them in the lineup than normal for a WCQ.
Pope is out though, so it's quite likely we could see an all-Euro backline.
My thoughts on the lineup:
-------------Keller
Albright-Berhalter-Gibbs-Bocanegra
-----Mastroeni-----Dempsey
---Donovan-------Beasley
---Johnson------Ching
That would be a half and half lineup. I have confidence that when Donovan is on the field, anything can happen for the US. Beasley is on an absolute tear with PSV as well.
The two US-Mexico matches this year should be the best yet as both teams have guys playing for marquee European teams. Great to see this rivalry grow more.
I could see the US breaking the hex in Mexico City on Sunday, but I don't expect it. 1-1 tie in my opinion. Getting ready for Guatemala is the most important thing here no doubt as this is probably the most meaningless game for the US in terms of qualifying for the World Cup.
Even still I want 3 points!!!
