If only one of these were attainable, which would you prefer? Some silverware or not having to matches to qualify for the CL?

The Cup....because if we do win it will have meant (more than likely) that we'll have beaten ManUre to do it. If the squad can't go on to win a home and away tie against Bratislava United or whomever....then I'd have to question if we deserve to be in the CL.

That's easy: The FA Cup. But then, I would rather win the FA Cup than the Champions League.

You know what's funny, unless we do both, maybe even if we do both, the mancs will still claim they are better than us. See Capt. Splarg's brilliant post: Scum Logic.

Well, it's not really a boast, so much as it is a statement of opinion. But, be that as it may, I do not care for the Champions League because it is a made for money, made for TV tourny that doesn't do anything for me given that way too many teams make European playoffs these days, and secondly, it is only Europe. There are a lot of fine South American teams for whom it is NOT the pinnacle.

But, mostly, I became an Arsenal fan in the early to mid-70s, following our capture of the Double, back when the Double meant something. When we won the Double, it was only the second time in the modern era that it had been done. It was harder to do. The 1st Division was far more balanced in those days: in successive years Leeds, Derby, and Queens Park Rangers won the 1st Division. For years in the early 80s the only English soccer that we could see on American TV was the FA Cup. I value longevity, and tradition. I value the drama of an every-comers draw. I've been to the old Wembley stadium, greatest venue in the world. I simply care more about the FA Cup.

And more recently, maybe I'd care more about the Champions League if Wenger had created a team that could challenge in Europe. This team is still a team that relies on Dennis Bergkamp, and DB is a European-pipedream. What team out there could possible win the CL by spotting the competition their best player every other game? Will Chelsea win if Robben misses every other game? Does Keane sit out away games for Man Utd? Not playing Bergkamp means we're always scrambling to catch up, whether in the group stages or in the knockout phase. I'll always care more about the FA Cup, but maybe when we have a team that can compete in Europe, I'll follow the CL campaign a little more closely.
