very similar to roster against Costa Rica, their's a good thread breaking down the Mexico roster

http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=168716

the starting lineup against Costa Rica was something like this
Perez
Marquez Sanchez Salcido
Carmona
Lozano
Pardo Zinha
Kikin
Blanco
Borgetti

Kikin is Fonseca, Zinha is Naelson

The 3 subs were Altamarino (defender) for target forward Borgetti, Medina for Blanco, and Pineda for Lozano
If Oswaldo is healthy, he's probably the starter in goal (replaces backup Munoz from last WCQ)

Unused subs from last game that are back are F Rodriguez, and R Garcia.

Israel Lopez is the only field player from the last WCQ not back.

So the 3 new field players are:
D
Ricardo Osorio - Cruz Azul

M
Ramón Morales - Guadalajara
Luis Pérez - Monterrey

so 2 players dropped, 4 new ones listed. 2 players won't make the bench. So it may only be 1 new field player in the gameday lineup.

The players I think were rated low their last game were Pardo and Borgetti. Blanco definitely doesn't run hard for 90 minutes, more like 5 minutes (but 5 dangerous minutes).

Here's my take:

I saw Lozano play in the CCC as either a LM or a LB, I didn't see the starting lineups. He was playing very deep and if he attacks from as far back as he did in this game he won't have the speed or quickness to really exploit the fact that the US has no RM. By the time he's in the attacking third either Donovan or Mastro/KZ/Reyna/Dempsey will be on him and if he gets by them Dolo will be in between him and the box. He has a good touch, even though he was inconsistent in this game, and looks like he strikes the ball well. He is not especially fast or quick, think Eddie Lewis. If Mexico comes out with a formation like they did against Costa Rica I don't think they will have the wide play to compensate for sub-par central play and this game may depend on which set of forwards play better.

sanchez is the superclassico match didn't look all that sharp, so I suspect perez gets the nod...

I just don't like the set of mexican forwards, particularly how they match up with the usa defenders....if some one with get behind the defense quickness was matched you with blanco, I'd be more uncomfortable

Both are probably subs against the US so it shouldn't be a big deal, Morales is probably on the bubble of making the gamdeay lineup anyway. Chivas will still be hurt if Oswaldo and defenders Rodriguez & Salcido are missing. Especially Salcido who's stepped up really well as of late. Don't see this much impacting the US game.

dumb move.. Morales has easily been Mexicos most consistent player in the past 2 friendlies. Hes small though but really fast and can cause problems .

Great find, Octavious Augustus... you have been deservedly repped.

And now, an invitation for our Mexican friends: Break it down, and give us your opinions and forecasts on what the starting eleven for Mexico might be...

Serious posts only (anything less than that will be dealt with accordingly).

Is Rafael Márquez 100% fit? I thought he was nursing some injury right now.. Not sure...

I'm guessing that if he plays for Barça this weekend, he plays for Mexico next weekend.

I'll go looking for some news links, defining the latest...

what does it say that more than half of our starting 11 will be from Europe and Mexico has one?

1) Mexican Club team have more money to keep talent home

2) US players translate better to Europe

3) Our guys are more talented

4) Something completely different

Marquez sees red
Rafa Marquez had picked up a harsh yellow for a foul on Valeron at the end of the first half and 6 minutes into the second he was again booked for a tackle on the same player which seemed clumsy rather than malicious. The Mexican will now miss the home game against Betis, but will be available for the Madrid game. Down to 10 men, Rijkaard reshuffled his pack and brought on Gerard to take over in midfield, with Giuly the front man sacrificed.

Definitely #1.

As for #2, "translate" is a bit vague. Mexican's have a leg up on adjusting to life in Spain given the language, and to a lesser extent the culture. But then again I'd expect an American to fit better in an English side. So you'd need to specify what you're asking, or at least which countries. I'm not surprised that they have a player in Spain, while we have none, nor that we have a bunch of players in England.

#3 is debatable.

#4 -- yes, there are other factors. One is that you can't be a big celebrity playing soccer in the U.S. In fact, some of our players -- McBride, for one -- relish the anonymity they have here. But the flip side is that, if you have equal money from Europe and your home country, and you can be a star if you stay home, that has its own appeal. And the Mexican players have that to a much larger degree than our players.

1.They seem to have more money to get foreign players. Their league right now is full of alot of south american players which has upset Lavolpe since alot of the youth and middle of the line talent in Mexico has been benched instead of given an opportunity to play.

2. Kinda vagued

3. It's possible, EU is the meca of Leagues and every international player wants to play there. Its not up to the players to go there, its up to the team managers to get the talent to play there.

I'm curious to see if LaVolpe goes w. both Salcido and Masa Rodriquez.

Both young, talented and, can have some shaky moments.

Salcido seems to be a more stay at home type defender who looks tecnically sound, looks to pass out of his end and is on the small side. I'd say he's a good bet for the final seleccion in '06.

Masa is big, fairly good pace and likes to run out his end. His style reminds me of Jaap Staam and, not surprisingly, gets a lot of flak for some of his decisions. Conservative is not his style, he's Chivas and likes to get up in a hurry. You can get a real scrum going asking about his chances of staying up on the big team.

Both can get worked and I think our DM's will be looking to poach off these two with a miscue in their own end.

With Raffa M. in the back running things there's a good chance they'll try to rein Masa in and keep him back and let Raffa work things out. Salcido is susceptible to 1v1's by DMB type forwards and I think he's going to have his hands full in 1v1 isolations.

I like our chances more each day, Azteca - all respect granted, is not impregnable.
