OK, so I finally managed to get the whole scoop on the flags from my source in Portsmouth.
He's ready to supply us with all the New England Flags we desire for 28 bucks a piece, delivered by yours truly to the home opener on April 9th.
That's only 43 cents less than if you were to order them from his website at flagstore.com, but I'll be delivering them, so you'll save 5 to 6 bucks' shipping.
For a refresher, the flag we're talking about here is this one:
http://www.midcoast.com/~martucci/flags/images/NE3rd.gif
I need to let him know as soon as possible how many we'll be getting, so please e-mail me at doug@dougly.com as soon as possible to let me know your name and the quantity of flags you want.
To keep things simple, I've arranged a deal with Mr. Cone to collect cash or checks at the tailgate wather than in advance, which considering the short amount of time btween now and April 9th (I can't believe it!) is a very good thing.
If whoever's responibl for such things could get this onto the Riders' Website and out through the mailing list IMMEDIATELY, that would be fantastic!
(BTW - Another advantage of this flag over the much-debated blue one, apart from its historical accuracy and lack of copyright, is that the red will lok nice for USMNT matches as well.)

Thanks for the update Doug, I applaud your efforts to make this an important part of being a New Englander.
I know this was raised at the Riders meeting, and I think it would be a great idea if we personalized the flags with the towns we are from. Does the flag store do this type of customization?

Funny you should ask... a guy who was in there while I was there was having a flag customized in a similar way for a girls scout troop. So yes, they do, but IMO it'd be better to seek out much cheaper versions of the flag on eBay or the like and do the customization with a Sharpie.

Just wanted to pass along to anyone who is looking to get a New England flag elsewhere. The official name of the flag is the Continental Flag.

That, unfortunately, depends on who you're getting it from. There's something about colonial and revolutionary era flags that no one seems to agree on what they're called. I've seen the red and white striped flag with the (old) Union Jack in the canton (Just like the current US Flag, just replacing the stars and blue field with the Union Jack), called the Continental Flag as well as the Grand Union Flag.
So, you'll always have to check to see what the flag you'e ordering looks like first. Don't just go by the name of the flag.
There are, BTW two cheapies on eBay at a "Buy it Now" price of $4.95 ($5.95 shipping, though). They're the older New England Flag with the St George's cross in the canton along with the Pine Tree. Just so you know.

More flag news:
As orders for the New England Flag are starting to come in, Mainely Flags has informed me that their original source for the New England Flag in bulldog cotton (Prairie's version) has dicontinued their production in cotton, but still has a few left. I've been told we can have however many of these that the producer still has left over for THE SAME PRICE AS THE NYLON ONES!!!!
I'm not sure how many we'll be able to get, but what I'll do is give priority choice of nylon or cotton on a first-ordered, first served basis. (That means a few have effectively already ben claimed!)
ALSO.... if you're interested in a little bitty flag, I can get a whole pile of 4.25" by 5.5" desk flags for 5 bucks a pop. Sew a strong red ribbon to the end of it and it#ll make a cool antenna flag! (Without a bit of strong ribbon sewn into it it'll get torn to shreds!) If anyone's wanting one of these, just drop me an e-mail!

Update time...
At this point, I should be able to get cotton insead of nylon flags for anyone who prefers them. Remember that these have been discontinued by the source and once these few are gone, they won't likely be available in cotton again for a goodly long time if at all, so if you're interested in one, now's the time.
28 Bucks gets you a 3'x5' flag in the material of your choice... 25% off the price in the store and a little niny bit off of the website prices, but no shipping if you collect from me at the Riders Tailgate on April 9th. Also, no payment is due until then. No mailing a check, no paypal, nothing.
e-mail me at doug@dougly.com if you want to get your hands on a flag.
