Absolutely right. I can see no reason for the tour at all other than to rake in a few $$$ for the FA.

One one hand he's right on the other hand he's talking ********.
England always play games at the end of the season, it's one of those international window thingies. However do they really have to go to the states for a week?
He's not losing Cole and Campbell, they'd be on holiday if they weren't with England.
Almost every international side will play games during that week is he going to complain about them all?

I think the important part is the fact that we're touring another continent. No problem with playing friendlies (even if their entertainment value is zero) but why do we need to go to the US to do it?

Now if England had won the European Championship (instead of Greece) then they would have been off to play in the Confeds Cup, instead. :o

I understand where Wenger is coming from as a club coach. But it's one week and only 2 games. It will be over real quick and players will then have 6-7 weeks off. Plenty of time. Yes players will pull out with mystery injuries etc, but there are plenty of players in the mix for the final 5 spots for the WC who would like to get 2 games and a week in camp to get a look.
Just to play devil's advocate for a second:
1. It is (almost) immediately after the season, players are in game shape, less any knocks they are carrying.
2. Two games in 5 days is an ok test ahead of any qualifying games and/or Cup schedule when a team needs to do the same.
3. It gives the players a one week training camp (in near obscurity).
4. Half the players will probably vacation in the U.S. in NY, Florida, California or Las Vegas anyway. So they are already there after they play the two games.
5. Why is the U.S. such a bad place to play at the close of the season as opposed to Villa Park or some other stadium in England. Its not like England would make this trip for a friendly in November or February. This is when the calender works out.
There isn't a club coach in the world that doesn't have reservations about players playing in "unnecessary" friendlies. Hell, some of the U.S. players for this match will be called in despite the fact that their club team is playing on the same day (Please avoid the simple answer that MLS is shite, so that doesn't matter anyway). When France schedules a game this summer, will Wenger complain that the majority of his roster is called up for that match?
Is it a cash grab, hell yes. ANY match that England plays in is a cash grab. Deal with it.

WTF is wenger nagging about? It's not like his whole team is to be sacrificed...he only has 2 english players in it, of which one is going to leave (Cole).
He should better keep his mouth shup and only open it when it's about the French national team. :)

Just suggesting that ENG could have been involved in another "useless FIFA competition" against some of the world's best teams versus being involved in a couple of "useless friendlies".

I see that senile pr1ck ferguson has also chipped in.
Seems to have the idea that we're playing a "tournament" and is talking about not releasing players.
Thing is it aint a tournment at all .Its just 2 friendlies and the players will have to be released.
This guy has truly lost it.
Im betting a load of players get "injured" before the tour .The same "injuries" that reduced the holland game to an absolute farce.

I don't see what the big deal is,Ferguson and Wenger have both got a point, why do we need to play in America to see another average set of performances.Sven knows what Rooney,Ferdinand,Campbell etc. can do so why bother. It may be a bit rich coming from Ferguson who has for two years in a row taken Utd for pre-season to America but from a business point of view it makes more sence for Man Utd than it does for England going over there, what are we going to do? make Americans support us and by our shirt rather than there own country.

Question: If you have no problem with friendlies, why does it matter which continent they're on??
Sure it's a money thing.....everything is about money nowadays...personally, as an fan of UK football living in the U.S., I welcome the opportunity to watch an England match.......
....and besides...if it pisses Wenger off, I'm all for it ;)

Travel time, MandyJo. It's easier to pop off to Spain, Italy, etc. than it is to pack every up and off to the US.

I see your point to an extent....but, having said that, it's still only a few short hours on a plane...it's not as though they have to spend days on a steamer crossing the pond.......or even nine or ten hours on the bus.......there was a point in time when I made that round trip twice a month......not that bad....

Oh yeah these guys have it so tough!!! First class, good food, plenty of room, movies on demand!!! I feel so bad for them!! I'd buy that argument if they were crammed in coach eating that slop they call food and being treated like crap!!
BTW aren't these guys paid millions to do things like this!!!
