It looks like we have a reasonable understanding of what we have to work with for a roster in 2005. We could have losses due to injuries and we could have one or more significant additions but for the most part we have what we are going to have for the season. People have expressed strong opinions--both positive and negative about our roster and it's potential. Here is a chance to go on record as to how you think the team will do---during the regular season. Please note this poll does not include the post season so lets avoid haggling about that issue.

I am not sure we have a reasonable understanding yet of this team other then the starting front 6.

From my point of view our starting pair of forwards is above average. Our midfield looks to be above average as well. However, I do know if we really have any good depth outside of the center of midfield or for forwards which is important over the long season, especially with potential national team call ups. Our defense is looking to be well below average and is still very questionable as to the quality we will get. How good are our two rookies, and if Llamosa is going to be effective at his age and after the injuries may answer some of the questions.

If our defense is able to come together and play up to be just an average defense in MLS, then I think we will be at the top of the standings. If on the other hand our defense is shaping up to be the worst in the league like some appear to think, then it may not matter how well our offense plays we will end up with a losing record and out of the playoffs.

So, overall I think that we are looking at about an average team in MLS, hopefully we will do better. The down side of being an average team is that the likely two worst teams, the expansions, in MLS are in the west. It is looking like we will again be fighting for the playoffs at the end of the year. So, I guess about 43 points with less ties overall in MLS then last year. But I am hoping that everything will come together and we will win our first supporters shield.

Come on people, get on record. After the last match of the season we will see who were the optomists and who were the pessimists :p and who were the realists.

i've chosen to weigh in as an irrational optimist. (simply because its more fun to be optimistic than pessimistic) i'll lead the charge and break the 50 barrier.

They are now and have always been a 1 point-per-game team (about 1.1 points actually). So sad.

Just got back from a vacation in Argentina, I finally got to feel what it is like to be at a soccer match with 60,000+ fans...

I voted for the high 40s. I was about to follow HiBall's charge but realized it as being a suicide mission. I just have a gut feeling that this season will be a reversal of fortune for us. Just a feeling of no major injuries to twellman of any one else, and no more balls being shot right at the keeper and posts. Ralston had two sick crosses in the colombia game, and twellman and noonan have step up and put the ball in the net a few times for the national team friendlies. I see this as a foreshadowing of what will come from the Revs this season!!!

For a little perspective on those picking 46+ points...in all but one year of MLS, that would have put you in the top 3 teams in the league during the regular season, often you had to finish #1 or #2.

This in a conference that has 4 of the top 6 teams with the best all-time meaningful records, and 4 of the top 5 teams with the best all-time regular season records.

Oh yeah, and both of last year's MLS Cup finalists.

If any team can be guaranteed 46 points this year, it's probably Colorado, who find themselves in the world's easiest conference this year with at least three teams fighting for the cellar, one team with intense turnover since their short-lived glory days, and another team that will be playing the first half of their season on the road.

As for 60 points, no team has done that since the season was shortened from 32 games.

I'll chime in, of course without any real knowledge of how they are doing this Spring...except for a few quality minutes against...uh, er, that perennial super power, Bermuda!

I'll be an optimist and say, 45pts. 12-9-11 (WDL). And that's giving them a good start with a 1-2-1 April record.

Apparently you missed MLS Cup 2002 ;)

I'm looking for the team to better than the Revolution norm.

I think 1.2 points per game this season is reachable. Then throw in a few extra points for the 4 times they play against the new teams.

If they fill the Central Defender role (before August) without trading away their strong forward and midfield group, then we might reach the high 40's.

Well, one thing to consider is that they are playing 32 games. For the last couple of years it was 30 and before that it was 28. Theoretically, they could get 96 points, but taking half the available points would give them 48.

Let's say they go 8W-4D-4L at home, that would be 28 points, and 5-6-5 away (21 points), for a total of 49 points total. 13-10-9 is decent, but I don't think it's out of the question. Even if you take away a win, it's still 46 on a 12-10-10 record.

I will go on record and put my money down re the Rev 2005 season:

This team is ready to better the 1.5 point mark. They will have the top offense in the league. IF---and it's a big--IF--- they can find a way to field a reasonable defense they will exceed 50 points and be one of the toughest team in MLS to beat--either at home or on the road. We have never fielded a team with this much potential. We are one player (and he may be a new addition or a ROTY already on the roster) away from being an MLS Cup winner.

We have suffered through a lot for 9 years. This is THE YEAR the Revs breakout and win the triple. :D

26-30!?!?

I can't believe that with two more games on the schedule and two expansion teams to beat up on there are people who actually think the revs are going to do worse than last year. It just seems nearly impossible. 7-7-18? I mean... honestly.

Well, one thing to consider is that they are playing 32 games.Just checked the schedule and you are 100% correct. Somehow I missed the press release on that one, and thought we were still at 30 games.

We usually have an end of season party at one of the soccer pubs. With people going on record on how they think the team will do this year maybe one or you smart guys can figure out a "system" to decide whose paying and who wins an evening of free drinks. Monty, your good with the numbers, how about a plan. It's never too early to plan a party, esp if one can figure out how to get someone else to pay.

OK People. Some of you haven't gone on record yet. You may have been waiting for preseason to end or to see if Cassio signed and we added anyone before opening day. Anyway, the opportunity to vote stays open till next Saturday before game time. You may ask--Why Vote? Well with all the diversity of opinion and projections that have been throun around on ths Board for the past few months lets just see whose realistic and whose way off the mark So put your vote on record. On the 2nd I will record who projected what and repost it after the end of the regular season.

Alright Doc, I'm in. 51-55. How's that for positive outlook? I had a dream we won 15 games. Throw in a few ties, and there we go!

If they had gone out and acquired a central defender, I would have been more than happy to up my point total by 5. But as it is, I'll stick with my somewhat optomistic guess.

Of course, if they did get that defender, I would have considered getting season tickets again. As it is, I'll wait, and if they play attractive soccer, I'll take in a few games. If they stink (as they usually do early on) I can always change the TV channel. The days of blindly throwing money to the Revs managenment are over. They don't deserve my trust.

Dan, I understand exactly where you're coming from. But for me, it's more about hanging out with people who's company I enjoy, watching the sport I love, and partying before and afterwards. It's not that I don't care about results. I would love us to win all the time and look like Barcelona doing it, but for $9 a game, it's more than worth it to me just to enjoy the atmosphere and cheer on the team.
