Listen up everyone, a Houston Watch Party for U.S.A. vs. Mexico has been organized by Glenn Davis. He has got the good folks down at Brian O'Niells to host the event. I don't know much more about it than that...perhaps there will be drink specials and what not. But no doubt about it now we have what many of us Houston die hards have been posting about since the last hex cycle!
What I do know is that O'Niells is gonna be U.S.A. super friendly and that Glenn wants to get the word out ASAP. I'm going for sure and I'm thinking it will be a kick butt time. Finally we can start a place for traditional viewing of our National Team!
When we last had the Hex to go through back in '01 we had a small gathering for U.S.A. matches down at SRO's off of South Gessner and Westheimer. SRO's managment was really interested in showing more soccer but did not know where to get started. At that time I was running HHFC and in the name of the club, I tried to get some of us BS folk to a centralized watering hole. I gave SRO's the hex schedule and they put it on the Jumbo Trons. Some folk around here at BS from back then met up and it was a great time to have like minded die hards cheering for the Red, White and Blue.
I'll get there early to start drinking and talk to whoever is there that Sat. and isn't a footie fan yet. Y'all show up in force and us die hards can really set the foundation for future matches. The owners of O'Niells should reap the benefits and its win-win across the board. Also, Brian O'Niells is in the Rice Village area a Bagwell homer north on Kirby from Reliant Stadium. So after future matches at Reliant, this could be our soccer watering hole. Plus I never have had beers with an ESPN broadcaster while talking about who our starting XI should be, this will be a first.
ROLL CALL: Who else on our Houston Board can commit to this throwdown?
Dale U.S.A!!! 2-0 again!!!

I don't know that I can "commit" (wife, son, grad school, etc.) ...but I'll make every effort to be there. Thanks for the notice.

I would like to be there even though my support would be for Mexico but I will actually be at the game in Mexico City.

Great idea. Sunday at noon is a little tough for me to make it out to a pub these days, but Brian O'Neill's is definitely a great location. Here's the link if you've never been there: http://www.brianoneills.com.

I meant to reply to this earlier. I had to go out of town over the weekend. What kind of turn out was there?

Caddman,
There was Glenn, some Dads and their sons. A woman who was very knowledgeable about the National Team was next to me. Turns out that was Yanks02, great to meet you Ms. You are a grand supporter of our boys....and yes McBride should have started up top with EJ.
Some of the guys from the Bellaire Varsity team...like three. Some dudes that are soccer posers and wanted everyone to sit down in a chair. Some older gents with their Easter dates were there taking in the match.
My family and Yanks02 were the ONLY ones with U.S.A jersey's on and the only ones in red, white and blue!
We needed more passionate supporters and more Big Soccer die hards. I saw other folks in the pub getting involved into the match just because we had this group responding to every kick.
The potential is there but Wednesday for the Guatemala match was a let down of sorts. I just posted what Wed. was like on the above thread Caddman.
Come amigos mios!!! Let's stake a claim and have our OWN watering hole we can be proud of each matchday for our Yanks!
Dale U.S.A.!!!!!!!!!

Oh hello! I didn't know that was you. It was great to meet you and your boys. I look forward to meeting up with yall again the next time a watch party is going on. (Sorry I couldn't make it to Wed night game. I get off work at 6:30 and it's about a 30-45 minute drive for me without traffic to the pub. I'll be there for the next weekend match though!)

So I haven't seen anything about this yet. I'm guessing there is no watch party for US/England? What about US/Costa Rica and Panama?

What about US/Costa Rica and Panama?
My friend and I have been trying to find a place to watch the US/Costa Rica and FC Dallas/Real Salt Lake matches. We'd like to meet up with some other soccer fans, but we need a place that's 18 & up. Anyone interested or have any suggestions?

Well, Brian O'Neill's (http://www.brianoneills.com/) now has a link on their site to Glenn Davis' audio commentary from the Chron site.
They have a full restaurant menu and seem fairly family friendly, so I doubt anyone would have a hard time getting in to watch a game.

Maybe we can start our own watch party? Any takers for Saturday's game? I'm down.

I'm down.We could probably just start showing up a BON's as the default option for US nats games - they have enough TVs to accommodate a few people for a soccer game even if the Astros are also playing (as if anyone's watching them at this point anyway).
Doubt I could make Saturday's game, but could probably make Weds for the 10:30 tape delay of the Panama game and a late Guinness. :o

Allrighty. Well if some more people can show up, I'll be there. It's kinda far to drive if it's just going to be all by myself watching the game lol. But I'll be there celebrating my day-after-my-birthday with a US win.
I'm down for the Wed night game as well.

I'm down for the Wed night game as well.Any interest still in tonight's game?
It may be a bit dicey - Telemundo shows the tape delay at 10:30 pm, while espn2 isn't showing it until midnight. I suspect we could probably convince BON's to put the Telemundo broadcast (at least picture, if not sound) on a screen. But it would be a late night in any event.

Yeah, I'm still thinking about going. It'll be a late night (even later after a 30 minute drive back meep) but it'll be worth it. I'm just worried that if BON is crowded they aren't going to want to be watching a soccer game where they can't even understand it. I don't want to drive all the way out there and then find out they won't let us watch the game and/or it's too crowded to watch it. What do you think?

What do you think?FWIW, I just gave them a call to feel them out about the odds of getting a TV for a soccer game around 10:30 and they said it shouldn't be a problem. That doesn't guarantee anything, but I'd be willing to give it a go if there's interest. Of course, it's not a long drive for me, so that's easy for me to say. :D
Anyway, PM me or just post here if anyone's interested - I'll check in again by 9ish.

Allright, after bribing a friend to go with me so I wouldn't have to drive by myself, I've decided I'm in. So we got 2 people with us!
See you there!
