In MFL there are 4 rich clubs-- America, Cruz Azul, Guadalajara (Chivas), and UNAM (Pumas)
now that i think of it, it would be incredibly difficult to make a single list for all the americas... these are just SOME teams that i think might make a list like this...(just a couple from each country)
Boca Jrs, River Plate, Corinthians, Flamengo (there are SO many from brazil with a lot of cash on hand) Universidad de Chile, Universidad Catolica, America, DIM, Olimpia, Libertad, Alianza Lima, Sporting Cristal, Pen~arol, Nacional...
now that i look at it this is just a list of the biggest names in each league, which for the most part, also means the richest but it is neither researched nor meaningful, its just off the top of my head
You'll excuse me (ecuajohny) if i didnt put any teams from Ecuador but come on, money and ecuadorean futbol dont exactly go hand in hand. I didnt but Venezuelan teams b/c its soccer were talking, not Baseball...
it should also be said that this subject is of no consequence, teams should be measured by what they can do with a soccer ball, not what they can do with a checkbook...(cough cough Real Madrid cough cough)

Or, ironically, they all can be called rich as well.
MLS teams are as well capitalized as any teams in the world.
So it really comes down to what is meant by "rich."

i think it comes down to "do they have the money to realistically contemplate making an offer for someone like Carlos Tevez?"

And the response for MLS is "of course they do." MLS does have the money.
That they aren't going to is due to the fact that they couldn't get a ROI in doing so and Tevez would be unlikely to want to come here.

MLS however is a league, not a club, and if the mexican league pooled its reasources they could buy him 20 times over
Im not on a my boat is bigger than yours rant, what i mean is that the fact that the whole league can buy one super star does not denote wealth
Also, i highly doubt that FC Dallas could make a 20million dollar bid for anybody, but i am not familiar with the league so ill take your word for it...

I wouldn't say that Pumas is a rich club (at least on Mexican League standards), and teams like Tigres, Monterrey, Monarcas and Pachuca are very wealthy.

UNAM was never a rich team to begin with. Morelia, Pachuca, Monterrey, Tigres, Toluca are all richer than UNAM. I never knew how Santos was able to afford 5-7 national team players (from Mexico and abroad) until I found out that they were owned basically by Corona (Modelo). They sold them to Carlos Ahumada, that turned into a raw deal, and Santos is back under the auspices of Modelo again.
Those teams are either owned by huge corporations or have the financial backing by them (Femsa, Modelo, Cemex, Salinas, Televisa, Banamex (Citi), etc).

MLS owners are infinitely richer than MFL owners.
They are not, however, in the business of throwing away their money. In theory, they could easily buy all of the best players and put them on MLS clubs, but since they actually are trying to make some sort of return on investment, they won't do that.
