Michael Essien has admitted to Sky Sports News that he would love to play for Manchester Unite
"I know that [the press reports regarding interest from Premiership clubs], " he told Sky Sports News.
"But, for me, I don't think about that because I have left everything for my manager [agent].
"So I don't think about it and just concentrate on my football.
"I like Manchester. I know most of their players and like them, and would like to play one day in the Premier League.
"I'll be happy to play for Manchester but, at the moment, I'm in Lyon and I have to concentrate on that.
"I like Old Trafford because it's one of the nicest stadiums in Europe and, foremost, I like the coach [Sir Alex Ferguson] very well."

Basically. However; even if a shade of it is true, it's encouraging....

Indeed. Let's hope we're not being tarted again. Wouldn't be the first time a player was prostitued using our name.

Another interesting aspect of football: to understand what is really going on you have be an expert at reading between the lines. There is so much under the surface...you have to be on your toes all the time. That is what makes it fun - all the undercurrents going on besides the game.

y'know I'd like to play for MAN U, as well as many other players around the world would too. What's make Mr. Essien think he's so special? :D

He's the anchor of a team that played as well as or better than we did in the group stages of the CL and that just blasted their way through the first knockout stage. Of course you've also done that, right? ;) :p

Great news. Essien actually said these things during a live interview with sky sports news. It is not 2nd hand information. That gives this whole thing some serious substance.

He went toe to toe with Keano and looked pretty good. That's something that Stephen Gerrard can't say.

I understand why folks are talkin' up Essien. But at what point does all this talk become flavor-of-the-month? For example, it wasn't that long ago that chatter on the list was that Lucio and Chivu were must-buys for the defense. And now? Anyone mentioned them lately? And if the club would bring in a player like Essien, what happens with Keane next year?

Well... he'd complement Keane and Scholes well in the 4-3-3 as he is a 2way midfielder... and of course Keane can't play every game regardless... in addition to which... Keane can play at CB sometimes...

Essien has been really special for 2season's straight now. There is a lot of hyperbole around him, yes, but aside from that and even before he was the media darling he was a name many were touting. This season's CL run has only compouned the thoughts many of us had last year. He looks like the real deal inside or outside of the media bubble.
For example, it wasn't that long ago that chatter on the list was that Lucio and Chivu were must-buys for the defense. And now? Anyone mentioned them lately?
Both players went elsewhere and were being touted before they made their moves to a new club. Both have not only great skills on the pitch but also an excellent character to them. Lucio turned down more money elsewhere to sign for Bayern, that is class. Mentioning them now is futile because they are way outside of our budget and are just pipe-dreams.
And if the club would bring in a player like Essien, what happens with Keane next year?
He gets a chance to rest for one thing. It has the potential to prolong his career by a few more years if a formation is adopted where Keane sweeps up after Essien. There are nothing but benefits for Keane if a new pair of quality legs are brought in. He is still our captain and inspiration and no new face will change that. It would also be beyond expectation for anyone to come to Man Utd and outshine Roy Keane in a debut year.
Keane will be 34 next season. At that age it is imperative he gets assistance from time to time throughout a season. It would also be preferable if he could trust the next man to actually go out there and do a job in his absence. I believe Essien can provide all this for and with Roy Keane.

So did Inge Haaland before Keane ended his career. By the way Gerrard is 24 how good was Keane at that age ? One last point Keane is a world class player Gerrard could be if he stopped listening to the media and beliving his own hype, shut his mouth and played like the "captain" he is supposed to be.

Not another one of you wind-up merchants. Does all this give some sense of empowerment?
Let me ask you, how good do you think Gerrard will be when he's Keano's age? My bet is on him playing for a relegation battler.

Let me explain if its too hard to understand. Assuming Stevie remains loyal to you scousers, he will be playing for a team that will be battling relegation in nine years' time.
