Do you mean any of the players on the youth national teams go to Germany in 2006? If so, there is only one on the horizon not already capped. Freddy. Time is running short for him. It depends enormously on his development during this MLS season. It can happen if he proves himself capable of running hard and dealing with the speed of play. BA would have to judge his development trajectory and calculate whether it would be a fit with the Nats 8 months later. Even then, he might not make it because of competition from the likes of Gaven and Dempsey. Not necessarily for the same positions, but for roster slots that will invariably push someone out.

Well, Eddie Gaven is the only current youth national teamer to have been capped so far.
Obviously, Freddy Adu will be considered but there's a lot of depth in front of him, including Gaven, and bringing in Freddy if it's seen as a PR move could jeopardize chemistry and Bruce is very chemistry-conscious so he won't do it unless the kid earns it. So far, he hasn't earned it.
Danny Szetela could make a push if he starts for the Crew.
My dark horses for making the team are the wing backs, Hunter Freeman and Marvell Wynne. If Freeman has a good start to the MLS season and shows well in Holland this June, I think he'll contend for minutes. He can play either wing back spot and we all know how thin we are at left back.
I think Wynne is the best unsigned player in the US right now and I expect him to have a very good showing in Holland and get several offers from Europe and that will result in him either signing over there or MLS swooping in with a better offer and getting him this summer. If he gets into a pro environment quickly and starts playing, he could contend at right back.
On the U17 team, I think we'll have a better idea once we see the kids play in qualifying and the U17 World Championship, but they'll be long shots. If I was going to name one player who could contend, I'd go way out on a limb and say Omar Gonzalez, the 6-5 forward who is currently being used in midfield. That kind of size Bruce might find a use for if he thought the kid was ready physically.

Totally spaced on my last post and forgot about Jonathan Spector, who, besides Gaven, is the only current youth national teamer who has already been capped.
I think he has a good chance of being on the World Cup roster.

For me, Freeman and Adu, and both are longshots.
If Karbassiyoon counts as a youth national teamer, then he has a chance too.

Yes. There are very few open positions for Germany.

All ya' need is one.
And I'm sure that Arena has ideas of who that one or two might be.

I think arena will look stricly at what roles are open, and wha talent is available...
gaven appears to be the best shot, given making an 18 man wcq roster, and at attacking mid or on the right side, he's in the equation...
spector is more problematic, as a meteoric 12 months from now could place him on the roster...
adu fits a role of explosive offense off the bench....he needs to continue to improve, plus the derth of other explosive options gives him a fighting chance...

Thanks for the info, Sandon. I think it will be all but impossible for any currently uncapped youngster to break in at right back, because Cherundolo has had a great season, and Albright and Hedjuk are natural fits there as well. But the deal breaker for such a hypothetical youngster, imo, is the fact that Reyna could be moved there as well, either in a pinch, or if Bruce prefers him at that spot. I think that's too much depth for a youngster to overcome at right back. So in my opinion, the only extremely slim chance would be at left back. Or, or course, Freddy...at any position. ;)

I would say that Adu is the only current, uncapped U20 with a shot. Other uncapped U20s that might have a shot are:
Jemal Johnson (Striker - Blackburn) - Has not yet been in a US jersey but lists his nationality on the Blackburn site as American. He is now getting PT with Rovers as a striker and he's U20 eligible.
G. Rossi (Striker - Manchester United) - Born in Jersey and moved to Italy at age 12. He's stated his desire to play for Italy's senior team but a rumor last week was that a U20 official from the USA had approached him in Manchester. He is being tagged as the next big thing at United so I'm sure we'd love to have him. However, nothing short of a USA WC call-up and an Italy snub would seem to do the trick at this point.
Notice that all three of my guys are attacking players. There is no way that an uncapped U20 defender will be in Germany next year.

Fair enough.
While you can include me in the group that doesn't think any currently uncapped players will be a part of the 2006 squad (ASSUMING we qualify), it's certainly possible for a player to emerge at the last moment, as Pablo Mastroeni proved during the last WC cycle.
Of course, would Bruce have given Mastro a legitimate chance to make the team had Chris Armas stayed healthy? I guess we'll never really know.

If Marvell goes pro over the summer after Holland and gets playing time somewhere (I know that's a big IF), then I would much rather see him on the roster at RB over the likes of Albright. He's too slow and his skills are nothing special for the international level. At least Marvell has major speed and tackling ability.

I'd think cherundolo and hejduk are arena's first two options at right back, with albright being the 3rd guys you'd play against big physical sides, where you want a physical presence at right back...

I think you guys are being overly dismissive. EJs' progress during the last 12 months has to be exhibit #1 that anything is possible.
Also, you can't neglect injuries.
I would be willing to bet that at least 2 young, currently uncapped players are on the 2006 roster.

Young players can develop pretty quickly. Damarcus Beasley didn't play in any of the WC qualifiers for Korea until the final away game at T&T - a game that was really no more than a friendly since we had already qualified.
So I wouldn't be surprised if there is a talented young player out there who is not currently good enough for the USMNT but will be good enough by summer 2006.
Like Sandon, the first names that popped into my mind when I saw the thread title were Freeman and Wynne since we seem to have the least depth at the outside back positions.

Parke didn't make the U20 team, it might have something to do with him turning 23 next week.
