Which do you prefer. Do you like it live or with a set of headphones.

Are you asking whether you would rather experience a live act versus an album or hear a studio album versus a band recorded live?

Basically, do you enjoy music in a live setting or off of a studio-recorded album.

Cool, living in the DC area I have access to two of the best venues to see live acts. Wolf Trap Farm and the 9:30 club are awesome in their own ways. Wolf Trap is an outdoor ampitheatre that has great sound and sight lines. The fact that you can bring in a cooler of whatever you want (if you're sitting on the lawn) helps too.
The 9:30 club has been voted one of the top clubs in the country for about 5 years in a row now. An intimate club that hold maybe 1500 or so, it has the best sound of any live venue I've ever been at. You can sit in the upper balcony and enjoy a cold beer and groove to some awesome sounds.
That being said, maybe it's the old fart factor but I don't enjoy doing the crowd thing anymore. I've been to thousands of live shows and those days are really behind me. The crowds, traffic, cost and hassles that come with it have made me enjoy my home system that much more. It has to be really an act I want too see for me to venture out and put up with the masses.

They are so different, it's impossible to decide between the two. And there's so much variation by artist. Some artsts live acts resemble their album to a T. Others are completely different.
Its hard to compare things that are so incredibly different.

Some bands are terrible live but are good in studio. I used to really like Incubus until I saw them in England at the Reading Festival. Man, was that bad.

Right now, live wins hands down for me. Part of it's the convenience - I have bunch of venues within walking distance (Mercury Lounge, Bowery Ballroom etc) that get a lot of up and coming artist.
And sometimes, I find that studio recordings are a little too clean. I like the distortion and the imperfect sound system. I've been to concerts where acoustics were awful, but the places I go to tend to be good.
