This still wont stop teams like Chelsea or Barca from offering and paying an absurd amount of money for these players but it will stop a team like Arsenal from signing them because they wont be able to pay what Lyon is asking for.

good move by lyon. even if they lose a good amount of players this summer, they will be seeing a bunch of money.

The best thing is that you know Arsehole Wenger wants these players very badly(they've been linked to Arsenal at some point)and now he wont get them because he cant pay what the big rich super clubs can pay for them. Heh heh sorry Arsehole :-)

Sexcellent. They would do good to get them both resigned.

I think both players could easily cut it in Italy, Spain and England imo.

First real sign that Lyon mean buisness and are not a selling club they once were.

Aulas is more intelligent than Marseille. He will refuse a "Drogba offer". I think the major problem for Lyon would be if Le Guen decides to leave the club. On the other hand those 2 extensions could make him stay.

I dont know if he'd refuse a "Drogba offer". Not many teams would refuse that. You could use that money to get a good player back.

Good to hear. Though if we had to sell one of them, it would give us money for a higher-caliber striker.

Then he'd be a fool. Drogba was very overpriced because Chelsea bought him. He'd never have fetched that much. But look what's happened to Marseilles this year - second in the league. They did the right thing by selling Drogba.

These boys are definitely media darlings right now so in the media the speculation on their valuations reflects that. But I just don't buy that a ton of cash is going to coughed up for Juninho Pernambucano. He's already 30 years old. And no offense to Vasco, Lyon's the biggest club that he's played for so far. Afterall, he put up the kind of numbers last year that he has this year and the big clubs didn't swoop.

Your right. He's more valueable to Lyon then he would be to another European team. He's been playing outstanding for 3 or 4 years now in France and still there was never any serious offers from other teams. If it hasnt happened by now its never gonna happen. Thats why I would be shocked if he leaves.

Let the bidding war begin then!

"For Fabien Piveteau part, Michael Essien’s agent, he confirms today on the French sport daily newspaper “L’Equipe” that “Juventus Turin is really interested in Michael. But I have no direct contact with someone from Juve. On the other hand, I have direct contact with someone from Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelone FC and Arsenal”

Lyon are really interested in Nuno Maniche from Porto. If they can convince him to sign there that would be a great signing.

Ok, since Essien's agent seems to be running his "show", here's
what he is saying now:
"The Ghana-born 22-year-old admits he is flattered by interest from England's top clubs, but agent Fabien Piveteau has already opened talks with Lyon over a new deal and has revealed the player always planned to stay with the club for another campaign.

"When Michael Essien signed with Lyon, we stated it would be nice to stay three years," Piveteau stated"

Personnaly, I believe he will stay put at Lyon for another year.
He's still very young, 22, and showing some consistancy with
a club for more than one season could be a wiser choice for
his carreer. And this club is ..Lyon.
But what do I know... ;)

Ps: this Skysport's piece originates from a L'Equipe article
which..I cannot find online.
