I got as far as "Is Wenger the man to rebuild Arsenal? "

Laughed and closed the article.

Of course he is! Arsene Knows!

Crap article, same old bullsheet. The author recommends buying SWP, Alessandro Nesta, and Steven Gerrard, swapping Reyes for Owen, and selling Cole to finance the whole thing. Interesting, but hardly realistic. Wenger is the only manager for Arsenal, but i do wonder if he might need some new blood in the coaching staff.

Irronically if Wenger ever bought in that line up id start to question his abilities. My Grandmother could pick that squad out for heavens sakes!

I love how the main basis for his argument is that Arsene hasn't had European success. How many managers in the EPL would sell their first-borns for the chance to play in Europe every year?

Apart from the possible transfer targets, there is a lot of truth in what that article says. I would suggest calming down, having a good read and then thinking about what has been stated. If you still don't like it, then feel free to pick apart the article and correct it.

Very helpful Teso, perhaps you have some suggestions on who would be a suitable replacement for Wenger. I'm sure you can suggest many applicants with a proven track record of success in the CL.

I didn't suggest sacking Wenger, I was merely pointing our that there is a lot of truth in what the article stated in regard to the squad. Anyway, I'm sure there will be a fairly long list of suitable candidates should the job become available.

Really? Then please name someone.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. I get so tired of people saying "Well, we should get rid of this guy" or "we should never have gotten rid of him!" without coming up with a solid reason to back it up, or a long-term plan. Keep in mind that this was the same manager that everyone hailed as the best last year. Now suddenly he's lost it, based on a European exit? Man U's gone out in the first knockout stage two years running! Where's the call for Fergie's head?

Until somebody comes up with a list of candidates who would be better at managing Arsenal than Arsene Wenger (and that means making do with the typical Arsenal transfer kitty), please spare us and don't even bother bringing up the subject.

This is great - after years and years of how Arsene Wenger has turned Arsenal into the dirtiest team in English football by the English media and how that has cost Arsenal silverware and respect, they're saying he has to encourage his team to play DIRTIER to gain silverware and respect. Precious, really...

I just love how you all ignorantly focus on the Wenger comments and conveniently ignore all of the important comments regarding your team. I don't recall myself hailing Wenger as the best ever? He won 1 league, great achievement. It was still the same poor European displays and that is where is matters. He hasn't "suddenly lost it, based on a European exit", he never had it in the first place. There isn't calls for Fergie to go because Man Utd have been unlucky. Big difference.

That ISN'T THE ********ING SUBJECT!!! The main thrust of the article was that your squad is poor and Wenger needs to do some serious rebuilding to have any chance in Europe. FFS. You lot are pathetic.

Apologies to any reasonable Arsenal fan who actually read the article and considered the other points being made in it.

Sorry if I'm reading this wrong, but are you seriously suggesting Souness as Wenger's replacement ?

The squad isn't poor and we don't need serious rebuilding, and the pathetic people are the ones that say it is... This is the same squad that won the league last year, and was being labelled with all sorts of over-the-top praise. Of course the opposite is now true. Considering that you are one of the worst for bringing up these type of topics etc.etc. I think you should take a deep breath hmm ?

Unlucky? Pull your head out of your ass. You're getting worse each year. Fact. Judging by your recent trend in the competition, you won't make it out of the group stage next season. And, there were plenty of calls for Ferguson to leave after your latest exit. Also for a club with the resources United have you should have made a significantly greater impact in the competition, it seems that '99 was an aberration rather than an indication of Ferguson mastering the art of European competition. I'd wager if you had Capello at the helm with the resources Ferguson has had at his disposal, you'd have more than the 1 CL trophy in 17 years.

The poster called for names and I gave him one. I was taking the piss anyway.

Oh the league, what a wonderful achievement... the talk is about being able to compete effectively in Europe. Even Henry was complaining! Read what the article says in relation to your players. The squad is rather poor. Take out Campbell and the defence is a joke, take out Bergkamp or Henry and the attack is poor. You lack serious depth. Most sensible Arsenal fans have started to accept this fact.

Unlucky? Of course. Man Utd seem to keep meeting the eventual winner of the competition. Add in stupid keeping errors like Barthez versus Real Madrid, Howard versus Porto and Carroll verus Milan. Then consider things like goals being unfairly ruled out (Scholes versus Porto). Luck has certainly been a big factor.

Anyway, stop changing the subject.

Teso - On this thread, jwaldman simply refuted what the article said, he didn't make a personal attack or have a go at you. You then called him ignorant and said we were pathetic. If we are that pathetic, please don't try and come into a reasnable discussion and throw your tantrums about.
Thankyou.

Pathetic and ignorant were made in response to Arsenal fans only looking at the headline of the article and the opening paragraph. If you read the ENTIRE thing, you will find that a lot of sensible comments are made. Unfortunately these have been "lost" under the "we love Wenger" bandwagon. I would ask yet again for Arsenal fans to read the entire article and then comment on the points made in regard to Europe, the squad, Wenger's transfer dealings and then the future.

Thanks.

Oh come off your high horse!!! This is the bloody arsenal forum, what the hell do you expect? If I went into man u and started questioning fergie I'd be out on my ear straight away, similar with chelsea. So don't act surprised. This is the Arsenal forum, we like Wengr so any criticism by Man U/Chelsea/anyone fans will be met with the "We love Wenger bandwagon".

I see no high horse Rick.

You would obviously get the "Asian Fan-Boys" (TM) mouthing off, but the more mature and sensible posters would see past that, look at the article and then respond to the points that were made. I think you know that as well as I do. I am still waiting for the, usually good, Arsenal fans to respond. Just look at the second post, that sums everything up to be perfectly honest Rick.
