Are you kidding me? This is basketball here right? The NBA coach has little more to do than nurture and balance the egos of his players. If you are going to go with basketball atleast say Dean Smith, Coach K, or Pat Summitt. Atleast in college coaches are important.

But in all honesty, coaching is much more important in football than any other sport. Therefore I say either Vince Lombardi or Bill Belichick.

In soccer, I am an Ancelotti fan. God knows it isnt Bill Bradley.

It's like those poor guys who work so hard but never make it. OK they are the best, but then again are they really? With Phil Jackson, at least he's got the rings to prove it.

Dean Smith is vastly overrated. With all the talent he's had he only won twice. Bobby Knight is 5 times the coach Dean ever was.

As for football...........Capello deserves a shout. Man's won everything at club level again and again.

If Bobby Knight is such a great coach and doesn't need "all the talent he's had" to win, how come he's never won anything at Texas Tech or Army?

I'll gladly take the one-hit-wonders of Jim Valvano, Don Haskins or Rollie Massimino any day over both those big program-enhanced charlatans.

Win something at a small-time program, that's impressive.

How come Knight never won anything at Texas Tech or Army? Well, you need SOME talent. Indiana has never been a big program. He sort of made it into one. And he consistently did it with talent far below the level of the other big schools. The only player for Indiana who had real NBA type talent was Isaiah Thomas who always credited Knight. Knight got more out of his players than nearly all coaches. The moder equivalent is Kryzezewski, although Duke does a better job of recruiting.

Phil Jackson? lmfao. What a crock of sh!t.
Yeah, how did he ever motivate those overachievers...Micheal Jordan, Scotty Pippen, Tony Kukoc, etc. He even had it worse with the Lakers, who had Shaq, Coby Bryant, Rick Fox, etc.

They could of hired fricken, Tito Jackson, and he could of coached the Bulls and Lakers to those titles.

I think it's fair to say that Vince Lombardi is probably the best football coach, Scott Bowman the best hockey coach, and Jose Mourinho the best soccer coach ever.

One of the best coaches in Soccer is the dutch coach of PSV I forget his name. A great coach.

After Sampson was let go I wanted that Dutch coach takeover.

One of the best coaches in my oppionion was Dr. Bilardo who coached Argentina in the WC in 86.

I'm sure he would say that, but there are many with much greater achievements.

I believe you`re referring to Guus Hiddink, and he`s currently my favourite manager. One of the few managers left that will always try to score, instead of playing not to lose. I always recall him having attacking sides regardless of the scoreline or quality of his own side.

I think his Dutch side of WC98 deserved were unfortunate not to reach the finals, but then again that`s football sometimes. I think he could do wonders with the U.S. squad considering the stellar job he did with S.Korea.

I like Tele Santana as the best ever coach. Ok not the best in everyones eyes, but my favourite. Yes it`s noted he never led Brazil to the ultimate trophy, but his Brazil sides of the 1980`s played the most flamboyant football I`ve ever seen. My personal opinion is that I think a coach should be held in higher regard when he`s tried to win playing his style of football instead of playing trying to negate whatever your opponent does.

I think along with Rinus Micheals, they coached the most entertaining WC sides that I`ve ever seen.
