Does anyone know of any good underground hip hop? I'm turned off by the mainstream stuff, and I don't know anything about underground stuff (which I've heard is pretty good. I really prefer East Coast Rap, two groups that I like currently are The Roots and Public Enemy. Are there any artists kind of like those two.

Check out The Beatnuts: http://www.danuts.com
They're semi-underground. Amazing beats.

Mike Jones is pretty damn good, but he is slowly becoming main stream.

Thanks, once I get money I'll try to download some of their albums on iTunes. My cousin got me in to Jurassic 5, and I had heard of Handsome Boy Modeling School somewhere else.

I highly recommend MF Doom "Operation Doomsday". If you can find the "Doomilation Bootleg" online somewhere, then you're even more golden.
Also, not underground in the least, but the older Wu-Tang albums (and solo material) provide a really good alternative to the stuff you hear on the radio today.

Talib Kweli and Mos Def aren't really underground, but Black Star is ridiculously good. "Black on Both Sides" by Mos Def is also good. From what I've heard of it I don't really like "The New Danger" much.
"Reflection Eternal" by Kweli is good. "Quality" is pretty good but not quite the same caliber. I haven't heard much of "The Beautiful Struggle".
Listen to Black Star, it doesn't get any better than "Respiration".
- I wasn't that clear, Black Star is Mos Def and Talib Kweli.
