US vs England

obviously people are paying attention

guess what?

ussf doesn't give a rat's ass about expanding soccer in this country

if you question this... note that there will be no fire game that day in chicago... there will be no doubleheader to expose new fans to our top flight league

shame on ussf... i'll keep my money in my pocket

thanks

Good for you.

Even though we don't know if England is available on a Fire home date, a man who stands on principle should always be recognized.

I'm not going either. My beef is they are not having this game in DC. Damn those small-minded pencil-pushers in Soccer House!

The Chicago Fire and MLS don't care about expanding soccer in this country. If they did, they'd re-arrange their schedule and offer to play the Fire-RSL game for free in front of the US-England game. But they won't.

Seriously Jay - double headers with MLS teams make sense when it benefits both parties. They make zero sense when one party is just going to ride the coat tails of the other.

You're getting one of the biggets friendlies in the last decade in Chicago, and you're bitching that the USSF couldn't dictate dates to the English FA.

Well that at least opens up two tickets for me and my wife. She is English, so this ought to be fun.

I Agree with you.

I dont understand this thread at all. The England v Colombia game at Giants Stadium is a double-header with the MetroStars - so what does that say about USSF?

Oh ho!

Good reply!

That is good, i'm not as strong opinion as Jmeissen0 but they should have worked a Fire game into this friendly me thinks.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Indiana Jones again.

Doesn't the Fire ticket office benefit from this, anyway? At DCU for the USMNT/Panama Qualifier, DCU season ticket holders got the best seats. I assume there will be something like that with the Fire. I'm sure this helps them sell season tickets.

What I don't get is playing games in New Mexico and Alabama. Is MLS ever going to expand to those places? I hope not (Ok, Birmingham is not totally unreasonable but only after a bunch of cities first). I'd like to see the US play some of these games in places like Detroit, Philly, and San Antonio first.

I agree doubleheaders, when and where feasible are a MUST.

Whatever ussf logic, either they don't get it, or they want to pocket all the funds.

Still, the HEX selections are a good postive move. At least some soccer fans outside the old buddy buddy network can see MEANINGFUL matches.

The idea that rfk or foxboro are the ONLY places where the national team can play should be avoided.

There's dozens of HOT venues with HUNGRY fans waiting their turn.

Share the game with them. Sure, the oldies can get into the mix, but less frequently than before

Sorry but, I could never sit for a doubleheader. One match is fine enough for me. If you've noticed with these doubleheaders.. the MLS match usually is deserted. People don't stay. It would be one thing if they let you out of the stadium, but if you're gonna trapped there for a whole day, no thanks. Spread the games out.

Spread the games out.i agree. you get repped for that (alas, i have little to give out :()

but those doubleheaders are MLS attendence stat-stuffers. and rather dishonest at that. we're getting to the point where MLS games should be able to stand on their own merit...

I'm pretty sure you're allowed to leave whenever you want--last I checked, the USSF has no power to hold people against their will.

If one game is enough for you, great. Lots of people skip the opening act at concerts, too, but most up-and-coming bands still want the extra publicity.

The irony of course is that Americans will sit through ONE entire NFL game for the same amount of time it takes to play TWO MLS games.

I like American/Gridiron football so I'll watch but I get antsy at halftime, my biological clock tuned to soccer time and thinking, "Why not end it now? They've been at it 90 minutes! Declare a winner and let me go rake the lawn, for Pete's sake."

But that's my trump argument with my pals. I had friends sit through both the US-Poland and Fire games by arguing that if it was Da Bears on the field, the second match would only be the second half so sit down and drink if you can't stand and sing.

I've been a harsh critic of our boys at soccer house, but with qualifiers in Birmingham and SLC, friendlies in Albuquerque, Hartford and Chicago, Gold Cup in Seattle and Houston, I'd say USSF is starting to understand they can't keep having all the matches at DC, Foxboro and Columbus. I'll commend them on what looks like a sincere effort to spread the footprint of US Soccer.

You know, England has a say in it too, and the MLS schedule already came out, having to balance a litany of other events and stadium usage issues.

I guess this means that the Holland - USA Match that preceded Revs match a few years ago means nothing, or the one double header where Beaser played in both National team and club team match.
