Ok, heres my plan to rejuvenate United. Get Paim on the team as soon as you can, then play him, rightaway. Ronaldo can be his friend and show him the ropes of being a young portugese guy going to England. Then you buy kaka. These three will all become friends because they all speak portugese and they're all youngsters. Then with a 3 pronged portugese attack of friends, united will be unstoppable, and Kaka plays good defense too when he wants to. It could be like this

---Rooney----Ruud---
-----------------------
Paim--Kaka--Ronaldo
--------Keane--------
----------------------
Heinze-Rio-Brown-Neville
-------that 16 year old keeper you just signed---

Then you'll win EVERYTHING

By the time that 16 year old keeper is good enough, do you think Keano will still be good enough? Add Essien there!

I've got three better plans:

a) Rob a bank in Russia, somewhere.

b) Rob a bank with Chivu, Vicente, Essien & Buffon in it. Take them.

c) Pass a collection plate around Asia.*

*I actually just thought of it, and if every United fan in the world donated £/€/$1 for transfers each summer, we would actually (almost) be able to compete with Chelsea... not going to happen obviously, but a funny thought.

A) We don't need the money of Chelsea...we actually bring excellent players up through the youth system so we don't need to buy a whole team to win.

B) I do believe Portugese is somewhat different then Brazilian Portugese and why would Milan sell Kaka anyway?

because Kaka wants some friends who are as young, arogant and talented as he is.

Thanks for offering some help but I think Norwich could use all the help it can get. I suppose the boards around here dont' have much Norwich talk.

because Kaka wants some friends who are as young, arrogant and talented as he is.I don't see Kaka as an arrogant player at all. He seems pretty down to earth in relation to other young stars. Otherwise I don't think coach Ancelotti would bother with him (remember Rivaldo).

Who's the last player brought up through the Man Utd youth system who you'd judge to be truly "excellent?"

I can't think of a single one since the Great Class.

Does Milan want to give Kaka up? No.

Yeah, what haven said. The "we're built on our youth" is a myth. Right now, your most important players are products of other clubs' academies, not your own.
There's nothing wrong with this of course...............but over the past 5 years Chelsea and Arsenal have produced more world class players from their youth systems than United has.

This thread is funny though. What are you saving United from? A narrow loss to one of the top teams in the world? It happens.

What Nice said...except it I will add that the plan should be to try and save Man U from Glazer.

(When I went to the Manchester derby in Nov, it was funny to hear the City fans start singing U-S-A, U-S-A. I had a laugh, the United fans went nuts.)

It's mainly because we're now in a position where if we have a specific need, we have the money to fill that need. All things being equal, it generally makes more sense to buy a quality player who has established himself in a top flight league than to take a risk on youth players--assuming you can afford it (and, as we've seen in several cases, sometimes even if you can't). Chelsea have a number of top-quality players from their youth system right now, but all came up before Roman stepped into the picture. Credit for producing players like Terry, but I doubt he'd have had a shot if Roman was there several years eariler. And once Emirates Stadium opens, I think Arsenal will have the income to delve further into the transfer market as well (at least they would if it was up to Henry).

Our youth stars are from a time when United were powerful in the transfer market, but before the market was as large as it is now. There's no reason in most cases to give youth players a huge amount of time to make their mark, especially considering that the big clubs expect to win major silverware almost every season. If the kids don't make it, they are usually shipped off to a mid-table team. We'll hang on to Fletcher, O'Shea, and Brown for now, but they're not going to have years to prove themselves obviously. Regardless of the situation at the time, the fact that we brought up six in the space of three seasons is a remarkable achievement, but one that isn't likely to be matched by any large club for a very long time, including us. If a large club can get one youth player through every 2-3 years, that's usually plenty.

If any team deserves credit for bringing up talent over the past few years, it has to be West Ham. Pity they couldn't fill their team out by enjoying such success in the transfer market, at enough least to stay in the Premiership.

Clearly its more of a windup thread than anything else. The peanut gallery just loves to see United booted out of a competition.

Hey, I agree and have long argued the same. Its hard to imagine someone like Terry breaking into the squad now. He'd have to take advantage of an injury and be truly special. Why try to blood one of 5 wingers who MIGHT turn out to be good when we can buy Joaquin, who's only 24 and obviously has talent? I don't blame United in the slightest.
These days, youth squads exist to provide depth in less important competitions or early rounds and to hopefully provide one great player every 3-5 years or so. Otherwise, no top team can truly rely on youth.
