Which cliche do you hate the most when hear a commentator say it?

For me it's the "Team A just wanted it more", for example in the Milan-ManUtd game on Tuesday, the radio commentator mentioned that "Milan just wanted it more". This is just a load of balls. Do you really think that Keane, Van Nistelrooy etc were less willing to win instead of Maldino, Gattuso etc? The difference is that 1 team simply played better than the other and/or are simply better players. Nothing to do with "wanting it more".

The worst cliche is 'its a game of two halves'

What is the point of saying that.

Actually, I think that is a cliche that works. It happens all the time that teams/individuals mail in their performances and play as if they can't be bothered. And there are teams and players that play with urgency. And when one of each happens to be playing each other, well, one team can want it more than the other.

Wishing I had a good example right off the top of my head...

But the point is it's cliché and oversued. It gets used in tons of situations where it doesn't apply. Even in situations where it might, it's probably best avoided cause.

Ask any player if he thinks his team can win the league/cup/avoid relegation/win promotion or whatever and you know what's coming next...."We're taking it one game at a time."
