Less than a week away, so we can start talking about this one.
Finally a home game. It's the beginning of a stretch in which we must produce maximum points.
Hotspurs have an FA Cup match on Sunday at Newcastle. It's nice to see the shoe on the other foot for once. But Spurs look very deep. They could start one team against the Magpies and put out a completely different team when they visit the Valley.
Does Curbs go 4-4-2? Do we see Jeffers? Rommedahl? Anyone dangerous in the attack at all? Does Bartlett sit or just get help up top?
How's this for a 4-4-2?
Kiely
Young - El_K - Perry - HH
Rommedahl - Kishishev - Murphy - Thomas
Jeffers - Lisbie
Subs: Andersen, Fortune, Konchesky, Holland, Bartlett
I know, you don't put your captain on the bench to start. But Kish has been the glue in front of the defense. And Murphy is more attacking.
Thoughts?

To me, Spurs are completely 100% unpredictable. Either they won't even show up for the game, or R Keane / Kanute / Dafoe are irresistable and they're doing flips and cartwheels all over the 18 yard box..
Hopefully, they won't show up :)

I guess that's why Mido fits in so well at White Hart Lane. Another unpredictable striker. Hot or cold.
Yes, let's hope they show up distracted and cold. And let's also hope that Curbs opens up things and lets the boys go for the points -- unlike last match.
Go Addicks!

How long has it been since Spurs have been predictable? I'm hoping for Charlton to win this one at the Valley.

I'm more concerned with the affects of the club not playing for more then a week. Recent history has shown us that they are awful when they haven't played for awhile.
And it really makes me worry in that Alan Curbishley was supposed to be on World Soccer Daily this past week. The interview is now scheduled for this week. Apparently, the club was given last week off so Alan wasn't available. Just what we need to hear. Another reason for them not to be prepared for Spurs.
The good thing is that Newcastle knocked them out of the FA Cup and, maybe, this downer for them will carry over to Wednesday.
I think we will be lucky to get a draw unless Alan remembers all of the boo-birds that were out at Craven Cottage during the last 20 minutes when he went all defensive on us.

kev,
I hear ya. Too much time off. That's why Curbs should put some of those angry and hungry players on the field.
Give Jeffers and Rommedahl a run out. Run a 4-4-2 at home and go for the points. Why, even get the lead and go for more before settling in with a 4-5-1 defensive finish.
I originally had Lisbie as a starter, but I don't see that happening since he is scheduled to play for the reserves tonight. So, put Bartlett up top with Jeffers.
C'mon Addicks, wake up! It's time to show you want to go to Europe!

is this one on that live stream thing that kev sent the link for?
going to a 4-4-2 means sitting down kish, not sure if that is a good idea with the way the spurs have been attacking lately (except vs newcastle).
but I agree that the addicks should attack and go for the points. they will be well rested and should give a 90+ minute 100% effort.
If they use the 4-5-1 with rommedahl on the right thats almost like using 2 strikers. If they would only play long balls to romm on the right and let him utilize his speed then bartlett/thomas can fill in and get a cross.

doug,
why does going 4-4-2 mean Kish sits? is that because Holland is the captain? Or is because Curbs is too stubborn to put the better defensive mid on the field?
believe, i see your point. and you are probably right. but kish is playing much better than the skipper is right now. so in a 4-4-2, either holland or murphy should sit.
i must say i totally agree with you point on rommedahl. if we are going route one, why not out to the right where dennis can run down the ball?
thomas may not be as fast, but with the middle clogged we should be trying the get the ball ahead on the left too. against fulham, if we had really attacked on the wings, bartlett or murphy or holland could have gotten forward to do something with some crosses.

Exactly, curbs isn't going to sit holland for the reasons you state
The lineup which I think gives the addicks a shot at europe is:
kiely
young - el k - fortune - HH (need fortune's size over perry for set piece defending and el k over perry for free kicks and attacking)
romm - kish - murphy - holland - thomas
bartlett
distribute through murphy and attack using the speed on the wings. with kish and holland sweeping up, romm can concentrate on attacking. it might not be the most consistent lineup, but it has the most potential to make a run at a top 6 spot.

3' Thomas scores off a left foot blast. What a great way to start the match.
Charlton 1-0.
Keene almost puts a header in off a cross from Reid.

Listening now, but missed the first goal.
Is Thomas playing on the left at the start? Sounds like Konchesky is on the right to start out. As it should be.
Go Addicks!

Thomas is on the left. Ried has had two very good crosses for the Spurs. I wish the Addicks had gotten him.
